Looking for waterproof storage boxes which I can use on my roof rack. The box I used leaks when I drive in the rain. Last thing I need is rusty tools or soggy bread.

When it rains , You need something with a good gasket but they tend to be expensive if they actually work. I had a couple of old surplus military hard cases that sealed well after I fixed up the gaskets.

You could try kayak and boating outfits, they generally have a some options that should work, but they tend to be pelican style cases

This might be a little “Husky”, but if you don’t mind the size, it has worked great for me so far. Seems very durable. Clear lid so you can see what you got in there. And it has a gasket too. Purchased at Home Depot for under $30

I don't know what box you're using, but I've heard that it's pretty easy to weatherproof the Plano Totes using automotive weatherstripping.
I just picked up two 108qt Plano trunks on sale from Home Depot for $15 each and they came with a rubber seal in the lid. I'll be trying them out next week to see how well they work, but I'm happy with them so far.

I have seen the same ones at HomeDepot and although it looked like there was space for it, they didn't have any weather stripping. Could you post a pictures of yours?

I have a myriad of boxes. Plano boxes I ahve do not have seals but have never leaked or gotten dirty inside. 2 months driving around NM, CO, WY, MT and Yellowstone. Rain, sleet, snow, forest fire smoke... everything was dry and clean after two months and about 4,000 miles. Alu-Box is expensive but worth it. Nearly bomb proof, but you pay for that. Pelican is even more expensive and bomb proof. Harbor Freight has some Pelican knockoffs for cheap. I have the rolling case and its watertight.

Nanuk cases; NANUK by Plasticase | Waterproof, Dustproof, Rugged Professional Protective Cases - NANUK Cases I have 1 for my maps/laptop. Seem as good as Pelicans. I use Pelican mostly, ones off Craigslist, anything bigger than a 1600 is a beast to get on the roof unless full of sleeping bags. I have a 1600 for my kitchen and one for my spare parts. I use several of the Plano 3600's; PLANO 3600 Series Waterproof Storage Box | West Marine for smaller stuff like my field potty kit and 1 for my 3/8 sockets. I picked up a couple of Pelli 1650's before I realized how heavy they would be. I have had good success for indoor storage with Rubbermaid action packers, they are water resistant in that a driving rain(such as on the roof) will get inDSCF3791.JPG.
In the pic is my 1600's, kitchen is black and spares is gray.

Princess Auto carries "Pelican-like" boxes that are pretty good. Their stock varies from time to time and they all seem to go on sale at some point.

Pelican or pelican style cases are great if you need an air tight sealed case (Which isn’t actually necessary if your goal is keeping water out) & are very nice but VERY EXPENSIVE! Also if you go with too large of a case, they get heavy and awkward to lift on and off of a roof rack. I would love a couple for my rack but I don’t have $200-$500 dollars laying around for a case.

I have a few of these Wolfpack boxes by Front Runner and I love them! They are strong enough to stand on, big enough to fit lots of items, but small enough so that when loaded they aren’t too heavy to load up and down from the roof rack. Surprisingly (because of the straight sides instead of rounded at the bottom or tapered like most containers) they fit more than you would think. I was able to fit the items from 2 Rubbermaid action packers into 1 Wolfpack because of this. They do have vent holes on the bottom but as we know, water doesn’t travel up so they are perfectly fine on the rack in the weather (See YouTube water test). Best thing is they are only $39 bucks each and I fit 4 perfectly in my rolla rack. I am super impressed with them and highly recommend them!

I have used lots of different boxes/containers, many already listed and eventually landed on Alubox. They are expensive but well worth it. Very light and very thin so the internal volume is not reduced by the thickness of the box. I have been using Aluboxes for years and never had any issues, leaks, or other problems. There are other similar brands of aluminum boxes that are cheaper but I have no experience with them.

Right now I’m using Remington boxes I got from sportsman’s wearhouse. Really affordable and no leaks yet. I think if I go with a rhino platform over the cab I’ll run Roam rugged cases, the 95L is pretty low profile lots of good reviews

I feel like at Roam's prices, I'd rather just wait for Pelican's CARGO cases to drop. They're only slightly more and the mounting solutions look really good.

when i was working overseas, we needed good rugged cases for shipping our dive gear and pretty much everyone was going to military auctions and getting cases. the military has cases specially made for gear and when the gear is obsolete, so is the case and it goes to an auction site. sometimes you can find a very unique size that you won't find otherwise. here is one link, but there are several more if you google it
