Overland Bound WA Trip - August 2016

We are certainly interested. I do not know anything about the area but would love the chance to experience it and meet up with some of the OB folks. We are about a 5 hour drive from the Cle Elum - Rosalyn area and I'll hold tight to see what the firm plans, rally point, etc may be to see that we can really coordinate the timing ourselves.

Itinerary so far -

Thursday Afternoon: @mmnorthdirections will set up Basecamp at Salmon La Sac Campgrounds. http://www.recreation.gov/camping/salmon-la-sac/r/campgroundDetails.do?contractCode=NRSO&parkId=70321
(Looks like plenty of walk up campsites.) Corrie and Gracel arrive late evening in #OB0000.

Friday: Prep day for the OB Crew and hangout!

Saturday: 9AM Roll out of Salmon La Sac and head north on Cle Elum Valley Rd/NF-4330 to the trailhead. Roll out to Gallagher Head Lake.

Sunday: Slow roll back to civilization. We're targeting being back in Seattle around 6PM.

***BIG ASK*** Is anyone driving out from Seattle Friday evening? Could someone pick up @Michael from SeaTac at 7PM, then head out to basecamp?

Preparing a google doc to share out with more details and coordinates.

We will come prepared with signage and flags to mark where we're at.

While the trail isn't technical, I'm excited to just get out there and take in as much of the beauty as possible with a great crew of overlanders.

Friday Over-Nighters: Give me a heads up on numbers, and we'll do our best to get as many campsites together as possible for us!

Campfire Restrictions Go into Effect on National Forest lands in Chelan, Kittitas and Yakima Counties

WENATCHEE—Campfire restrictions go into effect on national forest lands in Chelan, Kittitas and Yakima Counties this week. Effective at 1 a.m. on August 5, campfires will be allowed only in established campgrounds and congressionally-designated Wilderness Areas. In all other areas, building, maintaining, attending or using a fire, campfire, or stove fire, including a fire made from briquettes, will be prohibited with certain exceptions.

These restrictions are the result of increasing fire danger in national forest areas within these three counties.

Certain sites are exempt, such as group camps and summer homes under permit. Please visit or call the appropriate ranger station to obtain information on specific campground information and restrictions.

Most locales within the Glacier Peak, Chelan-Sawtooth, Alpine Lakes, Henry M. Jackson, Goat Rocks, Norse Peak, and William O. Douglas Wilderness Areas are also exempt. However, some locations within these Wilderness Areas have standing campfire restrictions. Please contact the appropriate ranger station for specific fire regulations pertaining to Wilderness Areas.
Persons using or maintaining pressurized liquid gas stoves or an enclosed solid fuel fire using a wick are also exempt from this campfire restriction.

Fire managers on the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest remind hikers, campers and recreationists to be extremely careful with any use of fire in the outdoors this summer. Escaped campfires are the leading cause of human-caused wildland fires on the Okanogan-Wenatchee NF. Campfires typically become problems when campers fail to completely extinguish them before leaving campsites.

I don't think this fire restriction will affect us. Fires will be allowed in established areas at Salmon La Sac. My understanding is that they won't be needed elsewhere.

We live north of Wenatchee and the general area. This is the first year I can remember where we did not have a fire ban in place by the beginning of July. It is something we are accustomed too live in the Okanagan Valley. We had an unusually mild and damp part of July which likely resulted in the delay of the fire ban. Regardless of a fire I am really looking forward to this adventure.

Yes. Sorry, did not mean to confuse things. I'm just mentioning that we live in a relatively close part of the world and sort have have to live with fire bans in the summer months. Hopefully we can have a fire at the Friday night rendezvous point, but if we cannot it is for good reason.

Thanks to all for listing the awesome places! Im actually headed up to Tacoma area for the West Coast Subaru Meet this weekend and have the entire week of 8/15-8/21 to explore after the meetup. We will be headed South from Seattle on 8/15 on a slow route back to Socal. Any more spots you guys can recommend WA, OR, etc..Keep them coming!!

There are some washouts on the trail that were deeper this year where approach angle may or may not be an issue. Other than that, it should have no problem.

My passenger just had to cancel. That means I have an open seat in my XK. So long as there are no issues with dogs (and by that I mean snow dog fur explosions) I can roll by the airport on my way out.
