Howdy,
Just a bit of introduction here. I go by "J.R." and live in central Washington State , specifically in Wenatchee.
For years I did lots of adventure touring on motorbikes, with as much dirt as possible. My all time favs were my BMW GS s. Looking back now I chuckle about how well we got along with all essential goodies held in 2 small metal boxes bolted to the bike. Tents, sleep bags, cook gear, tools, etc etc. Cause now of couorse, the Jeep is filled with much more "stuff". Good golly how did I ever survive with so little on the GS! LOL.
Anyway, I woke one day I and realized darn, I got old! All the guys I road with were much younger than I. I kept up pretty well, but it started to hurt more when I would fall. So, the GS got sold and I decided four wheels underneath would be a bit safer. And so far that has worked well. An 06 TJ (long) caught my eye and so it began. it was well used and worked fine until I happened to stop at the local dealer one day and spotted the JKU in the dune color. The price was right and it went home with me. 75K miles later it is working great!
First thing I did when it got home was to remove the back seat, the rear speaker stuff and other get in the way moldings etc. I made own own kitchen boxes and fold down taligate table and added a large ARB fridge. Thats all worked quite well for me. My wife goes with me now and then as we are both retired.
Me an Overlander? Well, perhaps not by some descripts, as my trips are ususally only a few days or perhaps a week, and I usually have a destination! I am a deer and turkey hunter and bass fisherman. (That's why I need a base camp trailer of course.) I did many mods to a utility trailer and added my AluCab to it. I have my favortite lake I travel too and the same with my archery or muzzleloasng deer and turkey areas. And yes, every now and then I just venture out for a "whatever trip".
A pic or two of my JKU and so called adventure trailer. JKU has a 2.5 inch AEV lift and I run 34x10.50 KO2 tires. I built my own dash mount for all the necessary goodies like GPS, phone, Spot, mini I pad and camera.
More info on the above should anyone be interested.
Cheers to all,
J.R. in Wenatchee.

Welcome to Overland Bound J.R.

Wow, that's a detailed introduction. Thanks a lot for that. A great combination of Jeep n trailer you have there, wish you many great trips with it.

By the way, I also switched from adenture bikes to a 4-wheeled travel vehicle at some point years ago.

Greetings from Europe

HelloJ.R , Welcome to Overland Bound.

I am the Northwest Director. @PNW EXPLR is your closest member representative.

To help navigate through the forums, here are some links that can be filtered by “Region” prefix. We are in the Overland Bound North America US Northwest Region (US Northwest for short).

Overland Bound Meetups- is where all member generated rally points are posted in forum format for discussion of Rally Point and other types of Meetups. A meetup can be as simple as a group getting together for coffee, a trail ride, or a full in expedition with other Overland Bound Members.

Overland Bound Trip Planning- is a great place to talk about planning a trip wether by your self or as a group.

Overland Bound Routs: Downloadable- is exactly what it sounds like. Search, or share your GPX files here with a description of the route and POIs.

Share your Overland Routes- is similar time the downloadable posted above, but doesn’t require you to share the actual GPX file.

Overland Bound By Region < North America < US Northwest- is where you can find regional members discussing local events, Overland News, and general topics. It’s a great recourse to mete others in the regions.

Member Maps- a great trip planning tool. It can also be used to send out messages to members near your location, or a location you plan to visit.

Rally Point- a tool used to creat Meetups or send out an SOS.

Any questions, don’t hesitate to ask myself or your member representative team. Again welcome and hope to see you on the trails.

Hey J.R.
Welcome to the crew!

My story is similar to yours. I still have my 1998 XR600R that is plated. But like you, I have discovered that my body is less resilient than it used to be. So, I have over the years transitioned to a more compatible vehicle. Actually I am currently building a vintage rig for being off road..
Let me know if you have any question or need help with anything.

Nice rig, I always admired those who keep a simple setup. I can relate to your post, I'm not that old yet, but I have a bad back, and when I fall down... I don't get back up very quickly (but I do get back up still lol).
