I'll have a cb and a ham to listen on on. With any luck I'll have my ham technician license by the trip so I'll be good. Also bringing a pair of frs radios if needed.

I'm wondering what coms are most people going to be using? Are most people going to be on UHF/CB?

Typically we'll use ham, something like 146.460 or 146.520... CB would be the day of the month, or 16 (because 4x4 =16), it's really yet to be decided. I'd encourage as many as want to get their ham technician class. It's worth it if you spend any time on larger trail runs.

I think we'll have a topic on comms when time gets a little closer or somebody wants to fire it up.

FWIW, YMMV [emoji12]

Edits for 12/12/16, @Raul B fully committed (nice), @HAAANK and @picklejuice tentatively committed.

I was cleaning out the garage a bit on Saturday last, and I came across some stuff I don't use anymore and thought if anyone here might be able to put it to some use.
What do you all think of a VERY INFORMAL swap meet or Tail-Gate-Sale kind of thing on like the 1st night on the trail? Not huge stuff and not a lot, but if you have stuff in that category, bring it along, ask a fair price, and maybe someone else might pick it up. Also, since patches and stickers seem to be a thing, we could include trading or swapping of those.

Let me know your thoughts, usually the first night is spent socializing, walking around a bit and getting to know new people.
This is either a good way to instigate that, or a terrible distraction, I can't decide which. Either way, I wanna get rid of some stuff.

May be that you'd want to post up some pics here and then people could get prepared for what you're bringing, or even pre-sale is OK.

@Michael1929 There is an excellent write-up on radios located here by @aearles. Take a look at that and see if it answers some of your questions, may even create more.
CB radio's are OK for short distance comms, and I use one as well, but I have been on a trail with more than 10 vehicles and the front car couldn't communicate with the back car on CB. And, a CB is only as good as the antenna set-up you have.
FRS radios are slightly better because of their shorter wavelength, but they are limited to 1/2 watt power and a small antenna.

I looked at Rugged Radios, and not to diss a quality supplier, some of their radios are Baofeng of a different color and I don't understand why they ask 3x the price for it. They have other cool things like headsets and they'll set it all up for you, but I'm suspect of their prices.
