SO tempting - I have sub'd this thread and would like to be put on the list (tentative) as well as marking the calendar and going to put off for time at work when it's appropriate. I would LOVE to do this trip. Got the book and this looks like a great time! Really do wonder if a caravan would work - would sure add an added adventure aspect to it!! Looks like a 19 hr haul to Needles, CA from Redmond, WA...........(ponder ponder)......
If you took more time off you could make the trip down an adventure trip too.

We should definitely start thinking about building a roster of who is attending and what they are bringing from a skill set as well as what equipment they cary / type's of comms (standardization) / water / power /potluck /etc.

Maybe I am overthinking it, and I apologize if so, but in my mind if would make sense to have an idea of who has what and how, to understand vehicle capabilities as well as pilot/crew capacity for self sufficiency and what not. Just a thought.

Maybe set up a Google Sheets spreadsheet and let folks fill it in. If you want to give me the fields and values, I'm happy to set up a form this week that folks can complete as a starting point.

This is a great idea. You can do it in Google docs and share it. Reminds me.. I need to buy myself a new cb and take my ham technicians test so My comms are complete...

Can you PM me a list of info? It's possible I have the form from OTG somewhere... If I can make a decent form it should be reusable for all these kinds of rides.

Please write me in for tentatively committed! I think this will be a great way to get into the community! (I also have run this trail before, so I have a little experience on it)

Thanks for the Google docs thing, I'm unfamiliar with how that works in this case, we may need some kind of 'virtual gathering' if that's a thing to sort some of this out.
I'm all for organizing and getting things like comms, places to visit along the way and all that, but I don't want to lose the spontaneity that makes these kinds of things interesting. With a group of this size, we'd better have some organization, I don't want to have anyone feel trampled or left out, you really get out of these things what you put in, if you're along for the ride then that's cool.

I think maybe a separate thread or possibly post # that lists up these things we're talking about, or maybe that's how Google Docs works as long as everyone is in the know, right?

Let's keep making progress! This could be epic!

Also, if I could ask, if we can keep the 'chatter' in this post down to what's key to this trip, I think that would help keep the size of this thread manageable.

Dan.

Never mind, I basically cribbed from the OTG form and made this:
https://goo.gl/forms/hEDStAFgPfPTjdCJ2

Let me know if you want any other questions. If you PM me your email I will make you an owner and you can edit / see results.
Tom the form looks good.. And I just filled it out. All the important info is there. I will be there with my wife and 2 kids. The only hangup we might have is I may need to stop every so often as I'll have a 15 month old with me.. So long as everyone can live with that count us in.

Form looks good, just completed it. Who will have access to the database, or well form information? so we can build a vehicle/capabilities roster? I can help with that if you need help.

Agreed. I say we designate a few "leads" for different subjects and then have those "leads" have a phone call or something. Easier than trying to delegate to 20 people or someone taking up everything on their own.

Maybe something like this:

Permits:
Route:
Vehicles:
Requirements:
Roster:
Etc:
Etc:

Something like that? Without overplaying too much or anything so like you said, we don't lose the spontaneity that comes from these kind of events, but also so we don't neglect or let anyone feel left out? Thoughts?

I will be taking care of all the permit stuff. Once we have a final count I will call and sort everything out. I will also happily help in any other area that is needed, I have never navigated the trail, but by navigation skills are fairly good, so I can plot a few maps or draw out some routes with a set of waypoints or whatever it is we decide on doing.

I'm happy to share the form responses with whoever is organizing, I just can't post the link because it will show everyone's private info.
