Hi, Overland Bound!

I'm Ian Maddox, living in Huntsville Alabama. Found this site a few weeks ago and kept coming back - I'm starting to set up a rig to support a peculiar subset of the overlanding genre. My wife is an ultra-marathon runner, and I'm the crew chief; I meet her at various points along a 50-100mile route, quickly set up an aid station, feed/clothe/etc. when she comes through, then pack everything up and hustle to the next point. Plan is to be able to camp at the start line the night before, then be able to run this mobile support station for the next 30 hours as I drive around.

The car we're starting from is a 2018 WK2 Trailhawk (my wife's daily driver). A Gobi Rack is on order (12 more weeks to go), followed by a dizzying pile of stuff. Goal is to be able to go from pulling up to an aid point to cooking hot food under shelter inside of 10 minutes, so speed is of the essence.

I've been supporting her in these races for a couple of years now out of a Subaru WRX, but we've always stayed in hotels - as her races get further and further away from civilization, that's ceased to be an option - and now that we're going to be out in the woods, we want to be able to enjoy it. :)
Welcome Ian! That is a great plan! My wife does marathons and triathlons also and one of the reasons we are selling our camper to build up a rig so we can camp prior to her events and not have to tow a giant box everywhere we go.

Best of luck to you and your wife!

Greetings, people. Relatively new to this Overlanding/Wheeling thing but enjoying it so far! I have been slowly updating my 04 4Runner to get ready for some multi-day camping trips into Mohave/Death Valley/Eastern Sierra/etc. Sliders go on this week. :) Cheers!View attachment 47164

Just joined today...in North Alabama. I've been offroad in my Expedition, but only to go camping (Little River Canyon near Ft. Payne, AL). I began watching videos, and introducing myself to overlanding pretty recently, and I'm hooked! I can't wait to buy and mod my first rig...searching now...and contribute to this awesome community.

Just wait until she catches the ultra bug - it just gets more fun from there. Good luck to you and yours as well.

Hi Everyone,

My name is Ken and I've been snooping around overlandbound the last few weeks getting ideas for a new JK Wrangler unlimited my wife and I ordered for overlanding, it's due at our dealership any day now.
For the last 11 years we have been utilizing our 2002 2500 8.1 Suburban we built together. We are both looking forward to hanging around here and picking up all the tips and tricks for our new overland vehicle. Reno, NV

Nice rig... it's nice to see another 'Reno-ite.' As a newbie Overlander, I went with a Toyota 4Runner. If you're still checking the Wrangler out, go ahead and compare it to the 4Runner. It doesn't hurt to look. :sunglasses:

Hello everyone,

I’m Kris. I live in the Bay Area of California. I’ve been lurking the OB scene here for years now. 3 weeks ago I bought a 2018 4Runner (car I wanted since I was 8 years old) so I decided I’d finally stop lurking and actually sign up.

I have no experience but I grew up camping a ton and have spent years riding all over California and Mexico camping from my motorcycle. Not planning on going full hard core Overlander but I am really looking forward to learning new stuff, making some memories camping with my family and meeting good people.
Welcome aboard Kris. I concur with 'Hank Outdoors,' Go at your pace, be safe, and involve the family. As you know there are a whole lot of roads to explore out here. Overlanding will just add to your families memories. Enjoy. :sunglasses:

Man I hope I'm doing this right...... I'm new here, new to Forums (not sheltered, just old), and new to Overlanding. My wife Janice & I hope do be doing some overlanding in our somewhat recently purchased 2011 Ford E350 Van. Probably the best way to describe the van is that it's a partially completed, Sportsmobile'ish, work in progress. We will be attending this years Overland Expo & hope to get involved in some local events/outings as well. In fact, if I can convince my wife to let me use her 2013 Wrangler this weekend while the van is in the shop, I'm hoping to attend the "15 / 91 Rigs & Coffee" Rally Point on Saturday. REALLY looking forward to meeting some folks & becoming part of the overland community. Not sure how to go about posting a couple pics of "Da Beast", but I'll do some reading here & post them when I figure it out.
