With the cab floor painted, there was one thing left to do before putting the carpet back down, and that was adding some noise damping material. I chose Noico from Amazon, seemed to be a reasonable price for what you got, and had decent reviews. Petty straightforward to install as well!

Looks great, keep up the good work. whiskey7backroads.com
Thanks! It sure isn’t a quick process!

The time had come to replace the batteries - I was getting tired of having to boost the truck every time I wanted to to move it. I know a lot of folks go with different types of batteries, increased capacity, AGM, etc - but I decided to stick with old fashioned Lead Acid. Cleaning up the mount was a bit of a chore, but worth it!

With the batteries replaced it was once again easy to move the truck, and that meant I could start working on building the new sub frame - but first I had to cut off the welded on frame!

In order to determine how to build the sub frame and it’s mounts, I wanted to do a chassis twist test. For those not familiar with these trucks, they are designed to flex (yes you read that properly) - so having a sub-frame that allows the chassis to flex, while not transferring the twist to the habitat is very important.

Unfortunately I’d been having an engine light come on, and knowing how difficult it is to get these trucks out of limp mode, I didn’t want to risk leaving it for any longer than I absolutely had to. Time to dive into the codes and fixing it!

It seemed that this wasn’t going to be a simple issue to resolve, but I wasn’t going to let it get the better of me. With enough time and information, I knew it was solvable.

Finally, a resolution! (Though in fact this process could have been much quicker!!!). No more P053E codes!!!

Back to some sub frame mounting work! This is what allows the sub-frame to remain flat, and not transfer any stress to the habitat box - while the chassis is left free to flex, as designed.

While slowly grinding along with all the build parts, I needed to do some maintenance items as well - and found that there was not a lot of resources online for people to follow. I decided that as part of this build I would try to capture as much of the maintenance and repairs I was doing alongside the build. This type of video will be scattered through the rest of the build!

Oil changes should be an easy thing, but rooting through the manual to find all the info can often be quite slow (if you have the manual) - whereas a quick video that shows you what you need to know can often be the much quicker way of getting all the important info!

With the code issue solved, it was time to start building back up the sub-frame for this truck! Lots of dirty steel welding, and some big pieces of T-slot aluminum coming this way!

Part three of the deck build - adding a 1/2 sized headache rack to the front! Somehow, technically this is a 4th part as I had two part ones. I need a simpler numbering system LOL.

Finishing up the steel welding on the sub-frame / tray / flatbed! Feels good to get at least one part of this build finished.... or is it? Always more to do!

Now an exciting look into whats going to make the habitat box! I ventured out on a road trip to pick up my composite panels and visit a real life Fuso camper!! (All grown up!)

And with the panels home, let’s take a closer look! It’s still a long way from putting the walls up, but here they are!

With the walls on hand, I needed to get things rolling with the floor, this is the first of many, many, many welding sessions!

Part two. Welding aluminum is not something new to me, but TIG welding is not something I have a lot of experience with. Part of the reason for me wanting to take this project on was to improve my skills from “I can make it stick together” to “yes, I can TIG weld Aluminum. I have a long road ahead!
