W7BR: No announcements but welcomed new members and hams. Put out call for topics for future nets.
KF4YLM Josh: Good evening everyone. Good morning to Randall in VK land. Fall is contest season, VHF contests coming up. VHF Fall sprint. 4hr contests fun to do on trail from high elevations. September contest 21/22. Camp lighting: work lamps and generators in camp/contest sights. LED better and looking to upgrade. Uses LED headlamps and good for tower climbs.
W7BR Brent: Earth cruiser with LED setup. Keeps Coleman white gas lantern for a backup. Doesn’t know if it will light ATM. Has hanging lanterns and strips outside and head lamps. 2. Hello to new stations. Put roll of LED lamps inside tent on trailer with relay hooked to keychain. Can activate lights via keyfob both inside and outside the tent.
KM4MCM Tony: not light system but uses headlamp and flash light for around camp. Hadn’t checked in for a while. Been busy. Just wanted to touch base. 2. Tactical light from Lowe’s about 8” long. Used several years as Deputy Sherriff. Been very tough, Going to look into brand. Comment to Randall: Had 3 cell Maglight with conversion with 3 CREE LEDS. Was impressive at the time but it is lacking today. Hasn’t looked for updated versions online. Light earlier is Lowes Kobalt brand. 9” long with hex around head so it won’t roll.
K5TIN Shane: LED setup for camp. Carries 4-5 Coleman LED lanterns and headlamps. Then rig headlights. Weight savings important. Has Coleman lanterns but hard to find room for. 2. Carry at work Nebo Slim. 500lum with belt clip and hanging loop and magnetic base. Clip to front of shirt at work. Adjustable from 500 to 25 lumen. Works great, rechargeable, about $30 for light from Amazon.
KD2SOC Jordan: Excited to hear about the Coleman. Inherited 200A from Grandfather with broken mantle. Sat for years after about a year. 1970 year. New generator, pump cup and globe. Coleman Cyclone in place of hatch light for plenty of light in vehicle. 2. Uses streamlight survivor around camp. Stays in door pocket of Jeep. LED version but throws narrow beam. Uses 4-6 AA batteries so easy to find. Carries Protac 2l everyday, had for 3 years and previous one still works but has broken lens. Don’t leave home without it. Has couple settings.
VK7VWK Randall: LED setup. Cheap LED strips in soft plastic. Water proof and hung from awning bars. Provide good light and not expensive. Tried with varied luck. Amber color for soft light and bugs. 2. Still around for second round. Has a lot of old Mag Light with bulbs in them. Has anyone converted to LED? Has one that refuses to work in particular light. Project never really lived up where other works grea.
N7PHY Ed: Loading up on LED lamps and flash lights. Hard to beat light output for price and power consumption. Hard to find quality flash lights. Cheap hold up ok but expensive don’t seem to last. Has Coleman lantern from camping with family growing up. Wedding gift from Dad. Use on deck for nostalgia. 2. Nothing to add on 2nd round. Looking up lights from chat window. Secretly love magnetic HF lights. Going to do some shopping online and try running power through a pencil for light.
KN4QQB Brad: Minimalist. Alcohol lamp/stove made from aluminum can. Will carry battery/boost box with pencil. Hook battery to pencil led to make light. Use camp fire more often than not. 2. Hook up battery to pencil led it will glow very bright. Can start fires with mechanical pencil led and 9V battery. Built 10W LED to plug into phone using micro voltage regulator and micro-usb to let phone power device hooked to it. Was much brighter than phone flashlight but once it gets above 2.5W the phone turns off the USB power output. Will eventually power down because LED increase in temperature they increase current draw. Carried around in Africa.
W4FOZ Jeff: Setup for lighting is headlamps (2), 3 flashlights, 2 cheap flashlights (bright red and floats)
LED Waterproof Flashlight , campfire. M-powered LUCI from REI. Plastic inflatable lights, opaque for diffusion. Solar string light from M-powered. 10 LEDS with 3 settings for awning for ambient lighting and cooking. Also good to put in tent when away from the car. 2. Nothing else to add but enjoyed the topic.
KC2WAO Ben: goal zero venture 30 battery pack with mini-light string. 4 lamps with color change. 2 settings for brightness. Flashlight junkie. 6-8 flashlights in truck with several headlamps. Likes campfire too. 2. Nothing to add but glad to have joined us for 1st net.
KW4SM Carol: favorite camp light is campfire. Uses mag light to get around in camp. When dog goes nuts at home, TSC sells light with swivel head that will pull off with LED light strip inside. Likes HF free flashlights for getting to and from car. Comment for Randall about Maglight conversion: Did ok but bought LED version of Maglight and it did better. Currently misplaced. 2. Flashlight from TSC has magnet on one end, makes good work light. Husband wanted to add likes Lowe’s flashlight that will plug into outlet for emergency light when power goes off, but works as flashlight or work light.
W8ILL Will: Wal-mart $1 lights cheap. Rode bike to Walmart but forgot to bring light and got one to get home. Likes LEDs. Was working on bicycle and almost missed the net.
VK2DY Robert: Echolink touchy tonight. Overcast in Sydney. Had 4-5” rain recently to help with drout. Father’s day tomorrow there so they’re going to celebrate it tomorrow. Usually buys lights when they need them from DCF (outdoors supply in Aus). Has big aluminum job says does 900lumen. Does a great job. Just checking in for one for the count.
NB9D Neil: Uses HF lights, they work pretty good. Had flashlight/stun gun and accidently zapped himself. Uses standard flashlight about the size of Maglight. Has some weight to it. Use flat panel lights in camp for hallways and stairs. Use 1/3W. Got from Wal-Mart. GE brand.
