Thanks for organizing, I responded yes to attending albeit tentative as of now. I’ll update my rsvp / cancel once I have a possible scheduling conflict resolved, which I should know within the next week. This may be a last trip for us for a bit unfortunately. Thanks!

Most regrettably, I will no longer be able to attend as I had hoped and I have changed my RSVP accordingly. Karen and I look forward to the next time and are much appreciative of you organizing this trip! Have a great time.

You might double check if the trail is opened, if you haven't already. I was up there the end of May and a big section was washed out and no way to by pass it.

Derek (organizer), took a recent trip up there and all looked good.

Yes - the road was quite passable as of last week. 4x4 high clearance recommended, but I spoke with a family at the lake and their full size truck camper had no issues other than having to wait for the truck to settle a couple of time before proceeding. We'll be dragging our trailer so expect to have to get the winch out on at least one section, but most everything else should be fine. Janet and I expect to get ther Thursday afternoon. If you're coming up after that and want me to come down the trail and spot you I'll be happy to do that - raise me on 146.460 or 408-480-9583 as you arrive. :-)

Trip dates..meet point, I'm in Wellington NV. Thanks.
Hi - the meetup is actually at the lake, but I'd be happy to come down to the highway and join you for the last couple of miles anytime Thursday PM or later. Janet and I plan to arrive at the turnoff from 108 around 1pm on Thursday, August 15, and plan to make the lake by 3pm (we're always slow, and there are a couple of spots where we're going to really take our time - most people should be able to cover the last leg in 30 minutes, or less if they're feeling boisterous :-) We'll probably also stay over until Monday, August 19, and happy to have anyone interested hang out with us :-)

My friend Ken is going to join. I believe he is an OB member. He has a nice Land Cruiser and is very respectful.

By the way, what’s the road like? You mentioned turning off 108 at
1 and getting to lake at 3. Is it a 2 hour haul from the highway?

Hi, apologies for the late reply - just returned from a trip to Kavanaugh Ridge. Your friend Ken is very welcome and it should be a great time for all :-) Most rigs will be able to make the last section in about 30 minutes - there is a bit of off-camber negotiating through some water cuts and rocks, but any vehicle with decent clearance and AWD or 4WD should be fine assuming reasonable line selection. I mention two hours for Janet and me because we drag a 6,000 lb trailer behind our truck, and may well have to get the winch out on a couple of sections that have eroded over the years to make things steeper than we can handle on our own. Here's a pic of a spot where Ken's Land Cruiser will likely be very happy for the chance to stretch its legs, but we'll have to work at it. Cheers, D

Just toggled to not going. :(

Got back from Mexico Tuesday, brought home a nice little Covid infection. Enjoy, hope to catch the next trip.

I told Ken I’m sure you all would be happy to still have him but he sounded like he was gonna stay home and putter instead.

Hope to see you all tomorrow! We'll be leaving from the Peninsula around noon, so will arrive mid/late afternoon on Friday.

How about a Saturday potluck dinner? We can bring chicken tacos.

Hello Friends,

The trip is on! Should be great weather, with chance of brief afternoon thundershowers.

Sadly, my exuberance last week on Kavanaugh Ridge has my truck stuck in the shop, so I won't be able to join you.

Gwendolyn Van Der Lynden, an intrepid overlander and fan of all things tech, has kindly agreed to take over the trip. She and Esther plan to arrive tomorrow pm.

I hope you all have a wonderful time and I look forward to joining you next time.

Cheers

D
