I have never been completely lost physically, but spiritually yes! I have been blessed with a good sense of direction. One of those that can go some place once, and find my way back again. Even years later. Benz.
I am the same way. You rarely find it any more. I pay attention to what is around me, all the time. I always know which way is North and how far I have gone. Most people these days get lost if GoogleMaps isn't available.

Most lost I think I've been was on Drummond Island, off the upper peninsula's eastern tip of Michigan. Not so lost that I was in a panic or wouldn't have eventually happened upon another truck, but being solo (not the wisest thing) & just sort of exploring the spiderweb of trails had me all sorts of mixed up. I was diverted so many times from the main trails due to flooding that I just started picking whatever offshoots presented themselves to try & find ways around. It's well out of cell range out there & my GPS was just some low-res offline map downloads on my phone. And it was having a fit from me using it for pictures, camera controls, music, navigation, & not to mention the heat buildup from having it perpetually plugged in. Eventually chucked it in the center console to cool off & went for the random wandering technique. It was helpful that I wasn't on any time crunch besides hunting down a semi secluded place to camp at night. Making the requirement in my mind that those night camps had to be on the shore turned out to be a whole other adventure... avoiding private land & getting lost yet again on some gnarly 2-tracks trying to reach a shoreline. Really fun regardless, & I can just imagine how hilarious I must've looked if any locals saw me out there in the woods flailing my arms at black flies & poking big branches into the ponds that were supposed to be trails to see if my Rover would end up flipped & I'd lose all my oxen

I use the Cairn app. While this is mostly hiking trails it is still a good reference and been totally off track and saved us, it might be a good option. It works with no service.Only thing is that it has no android app yet
