I have to disagree. I had an XJ and took it out in stock form with open diffs, even that was enough to twist the chassis. Xterras are less common, but that doesn't mean they are less capable.

I'm partcial to my xj, as I spent 3.5 gs on it when I purchased it . It was already modified with a decent lift and tires. Although it wasn't ideally built, it has been adequite for the past 5 years of trails. (I am constantly doing up-grades to make it a better rig). It does need work done to it from time to time, but used and new/remanufactuured parts abundent. They are extremly easy to work on. And that is the main reason I am incline to say it is such a great vehicle for a budget minded rig. All that said. If $$$$$ was not part of the equation I would be rock'n a newer Tacoma or 4 ruñner for sure.
