As I understand it, vehicles using the Prado platform have been sold in the USA since 1996, here as the 3rd gen 4Runner. This, plus the 4th Gen 4Runner/Lexus 470, and all subsequent iterations of the Prado platform have the highest reputation for reliability and are known for excellent design...
If what they do is life-threatening, they are terrorists. Oregon reminds me of that old Simpsons where the daughter becomes a hard-boiled protestor. When an adult asks "What are you protesting? She answers "Whaddaya got?"
Does this mean that if you restart your device or accidentally log out of Gaia in a non-cell data area, you can't use Gaia until you return to internet service? That would be bad.
Clarification please:
The Rally Point lists comms channel as HAM 146.460 Simplex. Is HAM radio the only radio to be used/required for this rally point? It seems rare these days that HAM is the only comms listed.
My favorite for the radar imaging is an old app (last updated 5 years ago!) called Dual Radar. Still works on iPhone Xr with current iOS, but I don't know if it's a zombie app yet or will be soon. I've also got My Radar, Storm Tracker, Storm Radar, and NOAA Radar Live. All work fine as far as I...
My 1999 Quick Air (sadly out of business) came in it's own metal box. I can put it away immediately after using, although I'm cautious about the nylon coiled hose touching it when it's hot.
If I replace it someday with an uncased unit, I will mount it in a pelican-type plastic or a metal case...
My BFG AT/KO2's and my one Cooper ST/Maxx are heavy, stiff, 3-ply sidewall tires chosen because of general toughness and resistance to puncture, especially in the sidewall area. Never had a problem in the backcountry, but whilst driving around town, I still get a drywall or deck screw in the...
Ditto on film scores. FYI: "l buono, il brutto, il cattivo" has been remastered/reissued. It sounds better than most earlier transfers. Search "The Good, The Bad and The Ugly (3-CD)" at Amaz.
As a general rule: Water = bugs, sand dunes = wind. I drove past Afton Campground once, but it looked bleak with no privacy separation between sites, so I crossed it off my list.
Tablets beat phones, absolutely. Closer to a paper map because of size. Plus, you can't look at a paper map while driving either.
BTW, unless World War 3 is breaking out, there is no place on Earth** that doesn't have GPS functionality. That's the whole idea of it.
**With a clear view of...
Yeah, Gaia is intended to be used by downloading the maps for the area ahead of time. Then it functions like an animated paper map that shows you where you are as you move along. Greatest thing since sliced bread IMO. I don't usually use routes, but once created a route using gaiagps.com just...
"Has anyone camped in the desert by yourself?"
Why yes, many times. But not in this particular area. It looks nice, thanks for the look.
BTW, what town or city might I be seeing in the background of this shot from your vid?
Gaia. Looked all the others, decided I liked the choice of maps and sometimes having multiple maps of the same area. Reason: All maps contain errors; either errors made at it's creation or errors that have "aged in" due to changes on the ground since the map was made). A lot of times I'm on a...
