I've had mine for 5 months and camped in it a dozen or so times on cement, rocks, grass, etc.. and haven't had that issue whatsoever. I will say this, if the snap clamps aren't fully inserted into the holes in the ladder it will come down. I've had that happen as well, but it only dropped a few...
Do you have an aftermarket tire carrier? If not, I would be cautious about the added weight of oversized tires, high lift and a full jerry can hanging off the back of a factory set up. Particularly the hinges.
If you run an aftermarket bumper or tire carrier, not so much.
