Guest, UPDATE We went through the site migration runbook and completed all steps. We will need to complete the migration next week, but will leave the forums up for the weekend. A few days after maintenance, a major upgrade revision to the forum site will occur.
Moak. I put bearing buddies on my Lowe's trailer, and usually give them a squirt of grease before we hit the highway. Am I deluding myself in thinking this will protect my bearings adequately. Also went from 12" to 14" wheels. Always heard larger wheels /fewer revolutions made bearings run cooler.
For cold or wet weather camping, the Solo Bonfire firepit. It keeps the fire going regardless with nice even heat and virtually no smoke. And for sitting around the Solo, My GSI Firepit Rocker, a super comfy chair that's just the right height to really enjoy the fire.
Comfort? Most RTT's are going to have a marginal mattress, at best. I've put a Thermarest Camprest on top of mine to help out, and will eventually replace the Thermarest with a Megamat. But most offer decent comfort from the elements. We augmented cold weather performance with an $8 sheet of Dow...
Other- Lexus GX470. Twin of a 4Runner except better interior, V8 engine, center locker, Toyota Atrax system...all standard. And, GX's generally go for less than a 4Runner and are usually former mall crawlers in very good condition. I had a Ranger years ago and no way would it go the remote...
Extremely good window tinting...as dark as legal. Plus, reflectix windshield cover. Once a year leather treatment rubbed in. I think it's lanolin based. Wish I could garage the GX but the wifes CRV and the RTT trailer take up that space. Also I plan to cut reflectix panels for both of the left...
I've got a Lowe's build RTT trailer as well, and made most of my kitchen stuff(food) in the back of my GX. I leave one Rubbermaid Action Packer on the trailer with the stove and 5lb propane tank in it...so not much to unload. So far it's working, but I understand your pain.
Had an ‘07 FJCRUISER with the stock roof rack and mounted an ARB awning and a Smittybilt RTT to it. I lost about 40 miles per tank in range due to the air drag. No other issues.
sorry I don't. But, from the south going north on 600-1 pass up the Powerlines and head to the scenic overlook about a mile or so later. You'll see the bluff as it's hard to miss.
Here are the 2 I have; the Kuhl Renegade and 5.11 TacLite Pro. The Kuhl is an all synthetic pant that the legs zip off...very light weight. The 5.11 is a 60/40 poly cotton blend which is a little stiffer than the Kuhl but do soften after time. My 5.11 pants are over 12 years old and still...
Ophir pass is a good one to try. Cinnamon Pass I've done in a '74 Toyota Hilux, a '98 CRV AWD, a '95 T100, a '99 Tacoma, a 2000 Wrangler, a 2007 FJ Cruiser, and next year taking my GX470. Key is dry road and taking your time in the rough spots. Both the campgrounds...Mill Creek and Thistledown...
1. Yankee Boy Basin- outside Ouray, great trail up to the basin and Mt. Sneffels. Camp there at Angel Creek NFCG or Thistledown NFCG.
2. Alpine Loop- from Lake City to Ouray. Great campground on the Loop...Lake San Cristobol NFCG and my favorite on the Loop, Mill Creek NFCG.
3. La Garita...
Front Runner and Rubbermaid Action Packer, both decently priced. Zarge and Alubox, both pricey.
Size really matters. As in, boxes half the size you're considering will make it tons easier to get on and off your roof rack. Food for thought.
Talladega National Forest. 600-1 and 600-2 are the best but they're others. About 10 miles east of Sylacauga, off HWY 280.
There's also a trail at Little River Canyon out from Ft. Payne. And numerous roads in the Bankhead NF out from Double Springs. And there's an off road park at Hawks Pride...
