  • Guest, UPDATE We went through the site migration runbook and completed all steps. We will need to complete the migration next week, but will leave the forums up for the weekend. A few days after maintenance, a major upgrade revision to the forum site will occur.

US East CQ FIELD DAY! Where ham radio meets overlanding

If I can find a couple of folks to do this with me, then look for W2IRT, 1A or 2A VA. If not then I'll be stuck doing a 1E NNJ from home, but I'd much rather be doing this from a mountaintop somewhere!

Looking for other participants for August in Ouray/Telluride, Rimrocker Trail, and Moab

Anybody up for some wheeling and overlanding in the San Juans, along the Rimrocker Trail, and some of the more famous trails in Moab? Ideally I'm looking to partner up with one or two OB community members with some serious experience, since I'm extremely new to Overlanding in a way beyond simple...

OK, I think I've got it now--thanks for the tip! https://www.overlandbound.com/event/cq-field-day-where-ham-radio-meets-overlanding-2/?

US East CQ FIELD DAY! Where ham radio meets overlanding

QST QST QST Calling all overlanding ham radio operators who would like to consider combining a Field Day entry and a weekend of camping and adventuring over the June 25-26 weekend in northern Virginia, in the George Washington Nat'l Forest. The radio event runs from 2pm Saturday until 2pm...

CQ FIELD DAY! CQ FIELD DAY! Thinking of doing an Overlanding FD in VA

How does one create an event? I'm still fairly new around these parts and usually just post answers or questions in the forum.

    Friday Night HAM Radio NET

I would also like to participate but I'm not an Echolink user. I can come in via either DMR or YSF from a hotspot (would prefer YSF) but so far I've had no luck in finding a way to do this. On the road, I'm usually just sitting on America Link. Since so many hams now have a hotspot that they...

GMRS - Canadian rolling through the US

When you start the FRN process on CORES, you're asked if this is for a business or personal, and also if your address is within the US. Select NO, and the form becomes different. This should allow you to complete it. Note that Canadian GMRS and US GMRS equipment requirements are different, and...

Ham Radio Operators... Mobile, HT, or Both?

Mark me down for both as well. I have a Yaesu FTM400xdr in the Jeep, and I will always carry at least one HT with me on the trails. Usually it's an Anytone U/V 878UV, but I also have a couple of Baofengs kicking around, and some smaller GMRS HTs as well. When I'm out and about, I have one VFO...

CQ FIELD DAY! CQ FIELD DAY! Thinking of doing an Overlanding FD in VA

QST QST QST Calling all overlanding hams who would like to consider combining a serious Field Day entry and a weekend of camping and adventuring over the June 25-26 weekend. I'm a serious contester and regular FD participant, but a rank novice when it comes to overlanding adventures. I'd like...

US Southeast Planning our first trip

Well let's see how things shape up once it gets warm. I'm not a hardcore camper, so it's gotta be nice weather to get these old bones out in the woods. I'd been toying with the idea of a rooftop tent, but my knees said no when I tried one out.

US Southeast Planning our first trip

Heya, No, I never did. Work got insane (again) for both me and my wife and I had to put all thoughts of travel on hold. I still want to do this trip and see how it goes, and if it goes well, then I'd like to take my Jeep out to Moab and Ouray in August. So I'm hoping to get to Uwharrie this year...

Easy-setup tent and cot recommendations please?

I actually bought the EastCot a few months ago but have been too busy with work to set it up, however I've heard nothing but glowing reviews of it. I'm a heavy guy and ground sleeping is definitely an issue!

Easy-setup tent and cot recommendations please?

I was just very surprised how big it is in the shipping box. Almost too big to fit into the Jeep (I haven't tried yet). No way I can fit it and all my other gear if I'm going with my wife, but solo it should be OK.

Easy-setup tent and cot recommendations please?

Well I finally found a Gazelle T4 and it's sitting in the box in my living room at the moment. Too late for this year (what can I say; I'm a wuss and don't like camping in the cold) but I plan to do a few solo trips next year.

    Ham radio

Late to the party here, but let me add my two cents as well. GMRS is like a fishing license. You buy it, it's good for 10 years and covers your immediate family. Some very decent quality affordable radios, both mobiles and portables, and if installed well, you'll get great range. But as...

US Southeast Planning our first trip

Hey all, I'm hoping to revive this thread if I might. Work commitments got the best of me all summer and I just couldn't get away. I have a (very) little time now, and I'm thinking about heading down next week (around Oct. 20th-26th, in that range) for a few nights of tent camping from my Jeep...

Propane conversion kit for Coleman white gas stove

Thanks!! That's exactly what I'm after. I gotta wonder why it's not in production anymore; seems like an excellent product.

Propane conversion kit for Coleman white gas stove

Yeah, that's the one. It's still showing as out of stock on stansport's website, though, and it's not on Amazon.

Propane conversion kit for Coleman white gas stove

I'm more about convenience and reliability, and naptha is neither convenient nor reliable. It (mostly) works but the PITA factor adds up after a few days on the road. I do love the lantern, but if that fails I have several Goal Zero USB-rechargeable LED lanterns that work well, and a string of...
