How has the Covid-19 virus affected your adventures?

True, they brought our plans to a screeching halt. Hopefully everyone else’s as well. Stay home stay safe. Reconnect with your loved one, loved ones, and your self. Putting a halt to the rat race may cause us to question our inner values and improve our lives, thereby improving the lives of...

How has the Covid-19 virus affected your adventures?

Ok, good to be able to vent eh? I agree, the tool bag in chief dropped the ball, big time and any other politicians willing to believe that everything was going to be OK. It was not going to be and it took over 2 weeks for not only the administration to do a 180 degree about face, Fox News did...

How has the Covid-19 virus affected your adventures?

I’m thinking that the 4 of them will be charged and prosecuted, as they should be. Chris Collins from Buffalo is in prison now for a much smaller inside trade.. hells bells Kenny Rogers passed last week and nary a mention.

How has the Covid-19 virus affected your adventures?

Not at all, our entire lives are based upon belief systems. Everyone’s core values are different,, you or I or anyone else does not sit at a higher or lower platitude than anyone else, only different platitudes. You referred to a body of people that made a desicion that you don’t care for as “...

How has the Covid-19 virus affected your adventures?

Ya sure, if anything they are toolbags for not closing down a week or two ago. Or are you one of those folks that do not believe in science?

How has the Covid-19 virus affected your adventures?

I passed that around on social media, ie- Facebook. I was taken aback at how many people did NOT respond.

    Solid axle versus independent suspension

Years ago I had a skid plate fabbed up for mine. After testing the trailer on multiple “ black” trails at Rausch Creek there wasn’t a single scratch on it. The axle on my trailer provides about 4” more clearance than on my vehicle and contrary to what many believe, does track perfectly. That’s...

    Solid axle versus independent suspension

Good for your decision. One side or the other of a single axle or axeless trailer suspension is not going to compress or droop in uneven terrain. The entire trailer will articulate at the hitch point.

    Overlanding with "stock" 4X4

Interesting you should say that. I used to drag my 4x6 trailer behind our 04 Rubicon, cross country and I always found the “ride” and driving pleasure to be increased with the trailer. The side winds were less buffetting, curves at highway speeds were much better, and it tracked straight...

    Overlanding with "stock" 4X4

“We” don’t generally say that a lift and larger tires are required. However, there are countless two track trails throughout the US with many in our national parks that a high clearance 4x4 vehicle with proper off road tires, is strongly recommended along with extraction gear. Can you get a...

Why are there so few Silverado overland rigs?

No, not wrong at all. However, the best of both worlds, ( 4 wheelin and Overalanding ) are enjoyed with a midsize vehicle. I grew up on F100s then later F150s and Ford made a fine utility vehicle. My 89 150 4x4 was one of the best vehicles I’ve ever owned. However, that 89 was just too big to...

Steel winch cable vs synthetic rope

Dyneema mooring lines for ships and other vessels has a lifespan of 10 years. I don’t think I need to mention the very harsh conditions these lines are subjected to. Dyneema lines are also used on fishing vessels and have the same lifespan. I use synthetic dyneema line and will never again...

    Solid axle versus independent suspension

Yes, I’ve never understood that. My solid axled trailer has 14.5” of clearance and the deck sits 24” off the ground which is more clearance and way better break over angles than any tow vehicle.

    Solid axle versus independent suspension

Yea, I used to think the same. My trailer had a 1,700 lb axle and it blew out the spindles, once each side. I’m a slow learner, so my third axle is big enough. The 3,500 lb spindles and bearings can take the beating of off road terrain that our 1/2 ton trailer gives them.

    Dexter Axle for M100 Trailer

I’ve done it and I concur, get the flat axle. I did get the 5 on 4.5 hubs, (very common) and use 2” spacers that change to 6 on 5.5 to match my LC wheels. If it ever fails and takes the hubs with it, any tractor supply or trailer place can get the 5 on 4.5 quickly if they don’t already stock...

    Solid axle versus independent suspension

I run a dexter ez lube 3500 lb solid axle. It has at least 40,000 miles on it and with a bit of maintenance has never failed. A few years ago I upgraded from slipper springs to double eyed leafs and shackles. A friend is looking to buy a trailer and insists that an independent suspension is...

Is an overland trailer really worth the expense?

Mine is a 4x6, 22gallons h20, 2-5 gallon Gerry cans for petro, galley in rear, lots of stowage. Total weight completely loaded = 1,000 lbs. it’ll follow our LC wherever we choose to go. I have about $2,000 in it, all designed and assembled in my barn.

What's your experience with OZTENT RV Series tent(s)?

I don’t agree either. I bought our Jettent 25x at a deep discount as it was a left over model that had been used in shows. The bag dry rotted in three years do it now lives in an Army Surplus bag and travels up top. I’ll keep ours until we are too old and frail to set up a tent.
