Guest, UPDATE We went through the site migration runbook and completed all steps. We will need to complete the migration next week, but will leave the forums up for the weekend. A few days after maintenance, a major upgrade revision to the forum site will occur.
Just got the injectors back. This weekend will be an install and also Con Rods bearings and oil pan. The diesel shop is located in Portland, and Mark Singleton, the owner is a great guy. 503.235.1947. ACSD (Automatic Cold Start Device) was removed and replaced with a plate.
I don't want to hijack this thread.
There is a blog on the RIG build for the 80, and now a 40 that is being upgraded with a 1HDT diesel. Also a Youtube and IG @big_red_adventures for the 80, and photo album.
You can contact me directly if need any info.
Cheers
Not much experience with LandRovers, but we have 5 Landcruisers in the family. Two FJ40, one BJ40 and one 60 series both with 3.4L turbo diesel and one 80 series with a 4.2L 24 valve turbo diesel. They are unbreakable. The 80 series rode 31k miles in the last 16 months and gets 22-26 mpg...
It happened on my 60 series, but I am a bit paranoid about this. On my 80 build, I used the Prinsu rack and put 1/2” webbing inside the gutter before mounting the rack. I wrote a blog on the build on this forum. Took about a year (for the build not the blog)
Nicely done. Love the color. By the way, how much weight you have on the rain gutters? I found that putting a long channel along the gutter under the roof rack or RTT supports, saves the gutters. They dug into the metal on one of my rigs.
It all started 15 years ago, when my daughter got her license. We figured she need to build her car, that is, if she want to drive one...
We purchased a 1971 Toyota Landcruiser with engine issues ($2500). The car has been neglected and was not drivable. But it did not need smog in CA, so could...
I've already responded to this on another thread, but I'll just cut and paste... The build blog of the vehicle is in the rig builds threads.
We have solved the shower issue in a relative inexpensive way. It is an outdoor shower and has 2 tanks of 9 gallons each in the location of the spare of...
I used a Webasto Yacht fridge that has the compressor detached so you can put it in the wheel well. Yachts -> salt. Real estate is an issue and most fridges are bulky and take too much space. You can take a look on the thread that I wrote on the rig builds.
We have solved the shower issue in a relative inexpensive way. It is an outdoor shower and has 2 tanks of 9 gallons each in the location of the spare of the 80 series Land Cruiser. The tanks are made of 8" schedule 40 PVC pipes with caps. There is a pressure reducer from the air tank with a...
Just finished the rack for the water treatment system. Material was about $10. A bit of bending, welding and powder coating. It attaches to the plate that holds the spare with two 8mm bolts. The nuts are welded on the back side. The base is marine grade plywood glues with silicon. The rack...
Thanks mate. I am curious and always looking to improve mine. I used a pressurized system and a heat exchange with a thermostat with the engine. It heats up 9 gallons to 150F in 20 minutes but the engine has to be running. We turn it up 1/2h before getting to camp.
Cheers
Tinker hi,
I meant to ask you. Most people are interested in cost of a project like this. I ran a tab while I was building the Landcruiser and posted everything in my blog. The drivetrain was expensive but because of the nature of the project, Toyota diesel parts are mostly OEM or Australian...
Tinker hi,
Would be nice to compare your previous V8 engine mpg to the Cummins. I did a diesel conversion on my FZJ80 from the 4.5L 1FZ-FE original engine to the 1HDFT 4.2L 24 valve that was sold on this vehicle in AUZ. It changed from 11-13 to 21-26 mpg. At first I thought the fuel gage was...
