what temp do you set your 12v fridge on?

I have an ARB 63 qt. after calibrating it with a thermometer I keep it at 36 f. When empty it’ll swing down to 34 and up to 38. When full of stuff it stays very stable. It’s even more stable and cycles way less often now that I’m using the insulation bag for it.

    Armada vs Land cruiser

Hey there, in all seriousness, an older Nissan Patrol is a fine platform for off grid travel. Sadly Nissan has lost their way with the Armada. The first time I saw one I did laugh out loud.

    Armada vs Land cruiser

I’m not sure how anyone would consider an Armada as a serious option. I see them occasionally at the grocery store and I can’t help but feeling somewhat amused just looking at them. The name itself, used for an automobile conjures up outright laughter. The vehicle is begging for a sail to be...

    Die Hard Platinum AGM Battery

Well then, the Die Hard doesn’t manufacture a 34r or a 27f battery. I went back to auto zone for a new Duralast Platinum and they no longer make the 34r. They made me an offer I couldn’t refuse though. An Odyssy 34r for only 10 more dollars than the Duralast. That’s a freaking deal. $218...

    Quietest ATs?

Since the mid 80s I had been using the BFG AT KOs on multiple trucks and jeeps and never had a flat tire. Their traction is just as good and sometimes a lot better than anything else on the market. They also wear like iron. I'd put 40-50 thousand miles on em and sell them used for a fair...

    Die Hard Platinum AGM Battery

My duralast platinum battery is 6 years old and has done quite well. However, it is down to less than 80% capacity ( it'll only charge up to 12.5 volts or so ) Before we head out again it's time for a new battery. I run a dual system and the house battery, an Optima M series, is less than a...

    Scheel-Mann seats

I’ve read a couple of places that my re-upholstered LX 450 seats are just as comfortable as the SM seats. The SM seats are very tempting, but would be a waste of money if they do not provide superior comfort to what I already have. It sure would be nice to actually test sit in them.

    Spare Fluids on board

Yes, same here, unless one is into hard core rock crawling, constantly putting their vehicle in imminent danger, or traveling in extremely remote areas, ( that do not exist in the lower 48 ). Proper preventative maintenance, keeping our engines and transmissions in optimal condition and using...

    Overland Vehicle Systems - Shower

Yup, we use and old school 7 gallon bluetainer and a propanefired heat exchanger . Those commercial water heating systems are quite pricey. You and I and others are quite handy and we cobble together our own for about 1/4th the cost..

    F150/250 for Overland rig?

Yes, we are considering, well, I am considering, that when I get to be too old and feeble to pitch our tent and set up camp, it may be time for an older f-250 with the old reliable power stroke diesel, think pre 2000. Put a flatbed on it with some sort of 4 season 4x4 camper upon it. Then...

    F150/250 for Overland rig?

Depends on what years. New modern gas engines versus modern diesel? I’ll pick gas as gas prices around here are generally 50cents a gallon lower, also the new power stroke diesels are junk and require a lot of maintenance compared to gassers. Old trucks, pre 2003 with the 7.3 International...

    F150/250 for Overland rig?

To your original question? 150 versus 250 - hands down I would not even consider a 150 for a multitude of reasons. I’d go with the 250 for a lot of reasons, but primarily for two major things; the 250 has a solid front axle; the 250 has a nice heavy payload. I’m just not blowing smoke either...

    Spare Fluids on board

Me too, with 320,000 miles on it. Doesnt use a drop of oil, but I carry a quart anyway, not sure why, I’ve never had to top off since the head was pulled and the valve stem seals replaced. A pint of brake fluid, and a pint of atf/power steering fluid. You must have an engine swap as the 1FZ-FE...

Oil and gas is looking to take 80,000 acres of public land near Moab to exploit.

I come from the land of fracking. Here in Pa there was a huge boom. They built hotels, motels, restaurants, etc etc. plenty of work for any local that wanted it. Real estate and rent skyrocketed pricing long time residents out of the market. Service trucks were everywhere. Plenty of work-...

How to reduce clanking/banging of pintle hitch?

Ya! I never did understand the noise factor. I’ve been dragging trailers since the early 70s and they just don’t bang around and make any noise. If they do? Someone has a load issue, not a hitch issue

    Awning....rectangular or wing?

It’s just the two of us so the reason we have just a standard awning is twofold. The big awnings are really heavy and bulky and we try to control how much weight we have up top. And, for the two of us, the standard awning supplies plenty of shade, or to keep us dry.

    Scheel-Mann seats

I’m looking at a pair of Scheel-Mann seats as the next major upgrade for our 80 series. I’ve read a few positive reviews written by professionals, but I haven’t found a regular guy or gal that rides on them. $4,000 is a lot of coin for seats and I’d hate to suffer from buyers remorse. If you...

    Pandemic Purchases....aka "Retail Therapy"

I’m a bit late to this post, however, I got into the RC world thanks to a gift from my son. It’s the axial scx 10 builders kit. With an 80 series body to match my real one. I’ve also added another 120 watts of solar energy and upgraded all the wiring I installed years ago to support two...
