    1990 Ranger

After using my Landcruiser for a daily driver I finally saw the light, and bought a 1990 Ford Ranger. 61,000 miles, no rust, new rubber everywhere. I mean everywhere, bed mounts, cab mounts, rear bushings, front bushings, door seals, rear & front window seals, under the hood, etc etc.. The...

Rebuilding my " Carry-On" TSC Trailer

I’m not sure what you’re asking, the rack is 62” x 46” , centered upon uprights that are 57” apart, front to rear. 57” accommodates the slotted rack, centered upon them. The tent is 48”x56” the one inch overhand allows for the annex to be fitted.

    Question on vehicle modifications

Sounds like your Jeep would not pass inspections in most states, Pennsylvania included. I used to go into and out of Canada at least twice a week for just about 20 years. I’ve seen everything and a lot of angry guys in modified vehicles making the proverbial U turn and headed back. Your...

US Southwest Grand Staircase Escalante Week of Feb 8th

It’s going to be a little cooler than chilly . We’ve been there in late March early April and nighttime temps were in the low teens. The beauty in that was, no one else was there. We encountered two people in in 5 days. Suggestions? Amazon has guide books. One man’s paradise might be...

Are overland / adventure trailers considered RV's?

We sold our 04 rubicon TJ 8 years ago for that same reason, it was great for short trips, but comfortable after being in in for 4 -6 weeks out and about? Not really, it was beating the hell out of us.

You’d be amazed at where the stock 4 runner can go.

Are overland / adventure trailers considered RV's?

20 years ago we camped at SMNP and as I recall, the tent sites would accommodate an RTT. But, call ahead. When it’s not busy season the rangers will give you all kinds of phone time conversation. Big Bend NP does have dispersed camping. Be aware that the campsites are very dispersed, in that...

Rebuilding my " Carry-On" TSC Trailer

Finishing up the interior. Install flooring above the water pump, add dividers, install our kitchen and drawers. It all went back together surprisingly easy. Once the interior was finished I installed the rack. I like using the rack for two reasons, it matches the rack on our Landcruiser, so...

Rebuilding my " Carry-On" TSC Trailer

Four bolts on each side hold the trailer box walls onto the frame of the trailer. The walls are so snug in the corners that the gentle persuasion of a good leather hammer beats them into place before bolting everything up. I use clear caulking at all the exterior corners and dark grey caulking...

Rebuilding my " Carry-On" TSC Trailer

Once home I then aligned the suspension, and bolted everything back up. Primer and paint was next. Black on the undercarriage, and everything up top in the Espresso color to match the cladding on our Landcruiser.

    Bear country

Depends on the bear country. In the northeast my wife and I have nary a concern as we keep a very clean campsite ( think leave no trace ethics ) out of habit. So much of a habit that it is in difficult for me to articulate what to do or not to do. A couple things for sure though; Bears...

Are overland / adventure trailers considered RV's?

Yes, it depends on the campground. Some tents only sites are carry in. Other tent only sites are doable for an RTT. And some, aren't tent friendly at all as they are just pull throughs on asphalt, for RVs. Which NPs are you talking about? We've been to a lot of em.

Hole in the Rock Trail - HITR in Utah

OK, for anyone that is interested, I spoke to some club members that have been there and done it.. stock rigs with lockers can make it through, but say goodbye to your stock bumpers and quite possibly a body panel or two, depending on the driver. A stock 4Runner “Trail”, and a lifted Chevy...

    Jerry Can Mounts

Every time we visit the four corners region we have used all of our extra gasoline. One sure way to get some sad faces at camp is knowing we have to get up the next morning and head into town for more gas. So, I’m looking for a way to carry an extra 5 more for a total of 15. What I really...

Hole in the Rock Trail - HITR in Utah

Some friends of mine did the trail a few years back and I'm looking forward to completing it one day in the future. Coming from back east it's tuff to prioritize everything within our annual 4-6 week timeframe. I'd like to include Hole in the Rock as a side trail with our trip from Moab to...

    Jerry Can Mounts

A long time ago, on a planet far far away, I had a Rubi and bought one of these from Warrior rack company. I was pleased with it, installing it was easy if you're handy at all, and the jerry cans didn't rattle a bit with the help of a bungee strap. It should fit behind your swing out carrier as...

Why are there so few Silverado overland rigs?

you are talking about a rock crawler. I’m talking about an “overlanding” rig’s long term dependability. I’ll stand by my blanket statement concerning “ overland ” vehicles. If it were not true, world wide sales of Toyota trucks would have dried up a couple of decades ago. There is one...

New to overland and need some direction.

Most all of the above posts are right on the money and very solid advice. Personally I think your biggest challenge will be finding a rust free specimen. I see you are in upper Michigan, right in the middle of the rust belt. Good luck with your search.
