New to Overlanding what should i get? and where should i go?

It looks like you’re well prepared, gear-wise to head on out. As for where to go, one great way to get some “dirt time” is to go with an Overland Bound group, check the Overland Trips and Events / Meetups page. Also the suggestion above to find some fire or logging roads (if you have them near...

Many of you helped us, so thank you.

Subscribed! Do you have any off-road trips planned for 2019?

Advise a Noob: What gear should I have for a winter storm

Same situation in Portland Oregon! When it snows, those who can stay home, do. Even if the conditions aren’t so bad, the other drivers make driving seriously dangerous!

    Do I "need" bigger tires?

Heh, so a little background on me ... I grew up in the South where wanna-be Monster Trucks which never went off-road are literally everywhere. You know what I mean. Being practical-minded even as a kid, I couldn't work out why, beyond a certain size, such huge tires would be a benefit off-road...

    Do I "need" bigger tires?

Thanks for the replies, all Thanks a lot for this, great feedback. I will factor those points into my search for a new tire. And, Although I titled this thread about “tire size,” I think what I really meant was both height and width also. So ... follow-up question on benefit of going with a...

    Do I "need" bigger tires?

Yeah this is where I’m at, too. That’s why I’m thinking of just sticking to the size I have now. But before I spend the $$$$ , I want to be sure I’m not missing out on any advantages wider / taller tires might bring, if any.

    Do I "need" bigger tires?

Thanks for the reply. Have you noticed an improved ride with the 33” tires? Have you experienced any other improvements off-road vs the 32”?

Thoughts for the next build... (Family Build)

Just another approach to think about is building up a van that will meet your needs. This is an interesting video on that point - his build isn’t 4WD so may not meet your needs but the idea of having a van and building it out may be something to consider:

Advise a Noob: What gear should I have for a winter storm

Oh, and road flares! If you are stuck or even chaining up and visibility is poor , flares will help oncoming traffic see you

Advise a Noob: What gear should I have for a winter storm

Just a question out of concern for your safety, since you IDd yourself as a noob - have you put on and driven with chains before? If so, fine but if not I’d recommend trying to find somewhere to practice that beforehand. Sometimes CalTrans will stop every car and won’t let them through until...

    Do I "need" bigger tires?

Hi all - relative newb here, I've searched for an answer on this here, but haven't found what I'm looking for yet. Background & Question I will soon replace my Toyota Tundra's stock tires (275/65/18s), which have served me well on & limited offroad use. IF I'm going to go up in tire size, this...

How have you helped or been helped by a stranger on the trail?

Interesting thread topic! Newb here, but I actually do have a story. A few months ago, decided to take one of my first "offroad" trips with the Mrs to an easy 10 mi stretch of beach where vehicles are allowed, so I could test out the 4WD and get the Mrs comfortable driving ofroad. Since getting...

2018 Toyota Tundra Double Cab build

Love this write-up, thanks for this. I have a ‘16 Tundra and like the Southern Style front bumper as well due to its light weight. Did the bumper come pre-drilled for the various sensors like the Pre-Collision System, Pedestrian Detection, Lane Departure Alert etc? Thanks

    N.OR/S.WA Meet-Up and short trail run - 11/10/2018

Not sure what the requirements are the host/post a Rally Point, so I'm doing this here. This coming Sunday (11/18), the Mrs and I are planning to do a hike to McNeil Point, and then if the weather is decent, go down Lolo Pass, which is supposed to be a very easy trail. All here are welcome to...

Black Friday & Cyber Monday Overlanding Gear Deal Thread

I know REI has a separate thread with critiques about them, but if you’re interested in apparel, and are OK to shop at REI, they’re running their annual sale now. I did see KUHL jackets on sale there: https://www.rei.com/h/deals
