Guest, UPDATE We went through the site migration runbook and completed all steps. We will need to complete the migration next week, but will leave the forums up for the weekend. A few days after maintenance, a major upgrade revision to the forum site will occur.
1. Alternate phrase for me: “taking the dirt road less travelled”
2. Other than “overlanding:” truck camper, Forest Road / fire road/logging road. Or the destination name.
3. 50/50 : search for cool places worldwide and/or trip episodes. Or search for specific questions I have e.g...
I like your write-up and history of Overlanding.
Further, it doesn’t matter to me how someone defines Overlanding — if they’re getting outdoors in a vehicle and enjoy themselves, good for them. And I really don’t want to engage in an Internet forum squabble (BTDT too many times).
All I would...
Yes, I use them in the same way as many have stated: make a list of what you need but didn’t bring, and what you can leave behind next time.
My wife uses a journal to sketch and make notes about what we did each day.
There is a whole network of logging roads accessible just south of 26 in Tillamook Forest. It’s about 1 hr 20 min away from the Rally Point but if anyone is interested I can point you to a starting place.
I don’t follow Coyote Works that closely, but he always seems like a decent, well-intentioned guy. He often makes it a goal to find a point of interest on an old map and then go try to find it via off-roading and camping/hiking — basically that’s overlanding IMHO. So watching that burning Jeep...
Thanks so much for posting this trip, loved the photos. I can’t get enough of other members’ trips.
If you get a chance in the future it would be great to hear what you did/planned that went well and what you’d do differently next time.
Wow, fantastic to see Overlanders in the East Bay! I used to live over near Piedmont Ave and know exactly where you met. Some amazing rigs there, hope to see some pics from a trail run in the future.
Thanks for the pictures. There is something ... “wild” ... about the Celtic countries that’s hard to explain. I’ve been to Ireland many times and it always strikes me this way.
Multi-time Subie owner here. Though our Overlanding rig is a Tundra & pop up camper, I still love Subarus and love seeing them geared up for Overland travel.
Finished (cut, stained and edge banded) the temporary table for our pop up truck camper. No pictures; this is the prototype to see how this size works. Final one will be teak.
