Guest, UPDATE We went through the site migration runbook and completed all steps. We will need to complete the migration next week, but will leave the forums up for the weekend. A few days after maintenance, a major upgrade revision to the forum site will occur.
@Rav4_Overland
Step 1: Get a nice size piece of Al foil - Heavy duty or a couple layers of reg strength.
Step 2: Throw a bunch of delicious stuff onto the foil; Hamburger patties or chicken or pork tenderloins, etc potatoes, onions, peppers, seasoning, sauces, etc. etc.
Step 3: Fold it up well...
Interesting, the only problem is what if you have something larger than 4" diameter to put in the trash?
We did a 9 day kayak trip through the Grand Canyon and we had to pack out our poop in 4" pvc tubes.
I think I am leaning towards ammo cans. Way cheaper than Tasharoo ($25 vs $50-100)...
I need to figure out a better system for trash. I have a trailer, but I could see how a trasharoo would be ideal for a truck. I could still use a trasharoo attached to the back of my box. However, I am leaning towards a 20mm ammo can. They are 17 long x 15 tall x 7 wide. We are planning on...
A couple days drive is relatively nearby to you? You should not have a problem finding something with that large of a radius. Heck, Chicago is a couple days drive from you. Good luck!!!
For you I would head west into Hoosier NF (Indiana) and Shawnee NF (Illinois). Both pretty large areas of national forest, there has to be some really nice dispersed camping options in there. I have not lived around there in many years so I cannot give specifics. A lot of times it is just...
I LIKE IT!!! Seems like the perfect combo. $50 for a trash bag is a bit much. But I think if I keep it out of the sun under the tent on the back side of the kitchen box it will last a LONG time!! I already have ideas of making a foam top for cheap garbage can that is built into the flap of...
I am looking for places that the family and I can camp on the beach in the southeast US (NC coast to FL). Does a place like this even exist? If you have a place and you do not want your secret blasted onto the Interwebs feel free to PM me.
I have been trying to figure out my garbage situation in my trailer. I am thinking a trasharoo hanging off the back of the kitchen box might be the ticket. That way I can just sweep stuff right into it while I am cooking. My question is do you line your trasharoo with a plastic trash bag? Or...
I love the foil pack hobo dinners. That is how I wooed my wife. Made an entire meal in foil packs on our first camping trip and she was hooked. Not only do the ladies love it, but the clean up is OH SO EASY!
I also love a good dutch oven meal; enchiladas, lasagna, chicken and dumplings...
I am not current but I have been WFR certified for many years as a whitewater raft guide, also I has a lifeguard for many years before that and in boyscouts growing up our scoutmaster was crazy about first aid so it is something we drilled religiously. I agree, it is very important to know how...
Maybe what they/you do should be called Expedition Overlanding, they hit it on the head. Maybe what the rest of these fine folks do should be called regular old overlanding.
Because your marathon analogy is so full of holes. How many people fit XO's definition of overlanding in the world...
Sure having a standard or setting a bar is fine. But to set that bar at the exact point at which you are currently standing is a bit uppity (sorry, trying to wean myself off of elitist).
I am not here to argue with you, although that might be the way it is coming off. I have no skin in the game, but I do love a spirited discussion.
Your analogies you are using are elitist as well. So you are saying overlanders are the elite athletes of the game and the rest of us are a...
I am super new here and honestly do not consider myself an overlander. I have a truck and a trailer and I like to camp in out of the way places. But I definitely would not consider myself an overlander by that definition. And I am sure it would take A LOT of the people who are members of this...
But make sure you keep the bend of the axle pointed up. If you want to do it right you will need to buy new spring mounts and weld them on the other side of the axle. You can't simply just flip the axle.
Nice trailers fellas!! Just finished up a build like this myself. Only have 2 trips 3 nights on it. Extends up about 28" from the travelling position. Only 13" tires on mine, might do bigger tires to match the Taco some day.
WOW! I never knew this was as much of a problem in the western states. I have always seen less trash out there than I have seen back home in the Southeastern US. Absolutely ridiculous here. I have no pictures but we just got back from camping along the banks of one of the most pristine trout...
New to the RTT game. Made a trailer for it with boxes that house all of the camping and cooking gear, 270 awning, 12v. My goal was to make camping easier. Pretty much everything but food and clothes live in the trailer, not quite dialed in yet but we are getting there. The goal is hook up and...
