    Miles per gallon lost

I get 7 mpg, 8 with tail wind. The new roof rack hasn’t helped. Getting lost on dead end logging tracks puts me in a very bad mood.

    Mr. heater "Little Buddy" experience?

We use the Little Buddy in the back of the truck. It’s hooked up to a 20 lb tank. Having the tank outside and running the hose through an open door saves worrying about lack of oxygen.

How many miles per day (or hours) do people budget to reach a destination?

The prairies of Manitoba are so flat that I can sit on the front porch for two days before the newly estranged wife and her suitcase get out of sight. Getting to some interesting scenery takes about the same time. My daily distance is governed by how much fuel I use; I hate filling the tank more...

    Water Storage

I have this 25 gallon ATV sprayer tank that came complete with 2.2 gpm 12 volt pump, hose and wiring. It was on special offer at Northern Tool. I also bought the 15 gallon model for the shower room. It is certified for drinking water use and seems pretty tough.

    What is the one spice

After several years of a beach-bum existence that culminated in being penniless at the end of every Summer in the South of France; grape picking was the only way to survive. This introduced me to the culture of the vendange and cooking with Herbes de Provence and of course, Red Wine. Two things...

What did you name your rig?

A lot of people come up and say, "Quite the Rig." So we started calling it "Quite the Rig." Or "Quite" for short.

What is your dream overland vehicle?

ABC News report: National Parks under fire now for racism

All this makes me think of the tee-shirt. "Camping : Spending a fortune to live like a homeless person." I am sure the vast majority of the population prefers to sleep in their own bed at night regardless of their color.

Anyone using a small microwave when car camping

I have Hamilton Beach microwave from Walmart. 1300 watt rating but works fine with 2000 watt pure sine wave inverter. Don't cook with it very often, mostly 2 minute rice, it it is handy for storing bread, biscuits and cookies.

    Game Changer ?

There are not many things worse in my life than getting seasick. Cruising would be a nightmare. On one ferry trip, the ship sat outside of the port for 24 hours waiting for the weather to calm down enough so we could dock. I started to think I would die; in the end I was hoping death would be a...

    Roof rack awning

I prefer the flexibility of a de-mountable tarp with possibilities of either side or across the back. You never no for sure where you will be.

How Far off the grid is average for most?

I don't like trails that are just there-and -back. I prefer a loop or something that comes out somewhere else. Any where near halfway is a good place to camp on a two day trip.

Do you carry your good tools on the trail?

All the tools that I needed to build the truck are carried on the truck. I don't really have a better place for them. I also have the World's largest collection of power tools. I keep this scattered among the sheds, basements and garages of every woman that I have shacked-up with in the last 40...

    Travel considerations when acquiring water

I have 25 gallon tank that is made for crop spraying from an ATV. It is certified good for drinking water and came with a 2.2 gpm on-demand 12 volt pump. I filter the water as I fill the tank with one of those blue filters attached to a drinking-water hose. This was good enough for me but not...
