Plates and bowls, let's overthink this together

Another vote for Corelle. We have some plates made from bamboo [supposed to be eoc-friendly, re-newable source, etc] but rarely use them. Most meals are served in our Corelle bowls; not so much spillage with a bowl!

    What is your rigs name

Mine is called "Quite" because the first thing everybody says is, "Quite the Rig" and I say, "Yes."

    The Final Frontier

It is true that there are not many places that are left to be discovered. Northern Canada has huge tracts of land where no man has left a footprint. The "Stan" nations are another vast area which appeals to me to explore. But as a long-time international long-distance truck-driver, I am...

Hi from new member in Scotland!

Hi and welcome. Have you driven the NC500? It is on my bucket list. I presume that it is all tarmac but what is the situation with camping? can you just pull up and overnight in the wilderness or do you have to use regulated campsites?

    widowmakers

Wow! That is a big bit of wood to come crashing down. When I looked after some campsites, this was always my biggest worry. Even though there was a team of fallers who came every year and cut down every dodgy looking tree. Worst I ever had was an out house took a direct hit. Lucky it was not...

Finding a balance between camping and driving.

Poor fuel mileage and an uncomfortable ride make our days short and make our progress slow. I hate filling the diesel tank more than once a day. If we stop somewhere one night, we usually stop two unless it's a truckstop. Carrying bicycles and kayaks lets us explore without breaking camp. After...

    Portable Toilet

I have a port-a-potty in the truck but definitely only for Number Ones. Number Twos are for public washrooms or if it is an emergency then I use Double-Doodle bag set under the seat of the port--a-potty.

    Tarp recommendations

I use an 8x10 heavy duty tarp framed by 2 inch ABS pipe. Cheap and cheerful but not the greatest seal between vehicle and awning. Pipes are stored on the roof-rack when not in use.

The Summer of 1983 is when it started for me. I took the whole Summer off and spent it in the South of France with my VW Combi. Mostly on the beach near St. Tropez and in the mountains close to the Gorge du Verdon. I finished up picking grapes at a vineyard near Vidauban which gave me enough...

What coffee do you drink at home vs off grid?

Best cup of coffee I ever had was at a Bar Tabac in the french town of Tarbes. A Grand Creme on a Sunday morning in a cup bigger than a soup bowl.

    What's your dream trip?

I'd like to do something like this: London to Singapore.

What coffee do you drink at home vs off grid?

I usually buy Folgers French Roast for the percolator. But recently bought Black Silk by mistake; it's much finer and went through into the mug. Not a bad taste but ruined by all the dregs. I finished up by filtering after percolating and got a great cup of coffee but went back to French Roast...

OVERLANDERS: the book + the movie...Maybe.

Chapter 5 The Englishman and the American stood staring at the cling-film wrapped bundles of dollar bills that filled the oil drum. “Cartel drug money,” muttered Rufus. “Fill your boots,” grinned Kevin. The guys went back to the trucks and returned with the women and as...

OVERLANDERS: the book + the movie...Maybe.

Chapter 4. Rufus delayed smashing a window and climbing onto the roof of the truck. A wise move as the water didn’t come up to the top of the dining table before if slowly receded. By dawn there was just a thin coating of silt and slime on the surfaces that had been underwater. Outside the...

OVERLANDERS: the book + the movie...Maybe.

Chapter 3. A track led East from Coco’s Corner; Coco the US Army veteran who had established the dusty rest area/ campsite/ snack bar said that several customers had been lucky fossil hunting at the foot of local “mesas.” Mesa means table in Spanish. A mesa was an outcrop of rock shaped...

OVERLANDERS: the book + the movie...Maybe.

Chapter 2 There was a little bit of paper work to do before entry into Mexico but it was all available on the Internet. Tourist visas cost 500 pesos and lasted for 6 months. Vehicle insurance was mandatory but turned out to be cheap; $120 for thirty days, $125 for 6 months. Just how good...

OVERLANDERS: the book + the movie...Maybe.

I recently got back to Canada and found myself quarantined for 14 days. With two foot of snow on the ground, it wasn't hard to stay inside. Finding something to do was more difficult. Then I had an idea; write a book about overlanding. A thrilling action adventure story with an overland...
