What a trip! Amazing peace and tranquillity! The rain held off most days in the beginning and only 1 rainy night! It was absolutely perfect weather! The truck performed admirably and only a few things wiggled loose!
After the GA Traverse, the SCAR was a letdown. But my adventure spirit pushed...
After 11 days in the woods, I am finally on my way home! It started at zero dark thirty and 20 foot elevation in SWFLA, thru the GA mountains via the W->E route of the GA traverse, to our highest point of 6500+- at Clingmans Dome, thru Toccoa which we drove the “Currahee” Mountain. Tomorrow we...
Well said. We are on the return leg of a 11 day wandering of the North GA/NC/SC woods! It has been so peaceful having the woods to ourselves! There was an occasional motorcycle and day trip jeepers that didn’t bother us. Yet the camp sites were basically empty! I was in heaven with the solitude...
BTW, Hickory Gap was nice (34.92632, -84.67681)
Jacks River Field Camp ( 34.86313, -84.51964)
There are so many opportunity sites to camp, you will have no issues finding one. 5 nights and we had all creekside and 2 lake side nights. Absolutely perfect.
I just got off the trail 2 days ago. If you go the northern route of Frog Loop, be prepared for a bridge outage. If you have a jeep, there is a bypass to the side or back track over the dam.
<edit> I started west~>east too!
The first climb in the rain was interesting!
T-9 hours before I start my first adventure in my recently completed build! It’s been a long 10 months and I have been chomping at the bit for sometime now! John Denver is singing my ! But instead of a jet plane it’s a Super Duty!
In the last week, I had a few things happened that would have...
I just found your photo site! Im not supposed to be jealous but man.. nice views!!!
In the Montana section I see a really nice hammock. What brand and model # are they! I had a nice one in the Army with a mosquito net but they were 2 separate items. Yours looks like one. Plus that Gazelle...
I want to get to your area in a year or two. Nephew lives in Boise. Glacier NP, Tetons, and the BadLands are calling me.
My wife gave me only 2 requirements on picking a place to live. Within an hour of a major airport and no blizzards. She doesn’t like the cold and I grew up on Lake Erie. I...
Opinions are a plenty!! I like so many of these ideas but being a diy’er and a cheapo, I went with a propane fire pit that has a cast iron grill and a lid. Collapses to a small foot print of 8x19”.
I will say that since I was a young lad, the camp fire was the center of attention. My kids...
I almost felt like I was reading my own story. But I’m on the east coast wanting the mountains of Tennessee but my wife likes Florida. My idea of a climate is spot on like yours and these weirdo wives are polar opposites!
I just received a reply from OnX support that really bothers me. I guess my expectation management was out of whack! I plan on my laptop, view on either iPhone or iPad and what bothers me is that any administrative actions, turn on/off views, have to be done “per device.” So I plan a trip, turn...
The fact that you asked shows a lot! There is a section for build threads. I started mine about 10 months ago and just kept adding to it! It does take time and more effort than I expected trying to “pause” to take pictures while trying to accomplish a task. Best O’luck!
T-8 days and a wake up! I brought the fridge inside and started to pack my meals. Definitely overthinking food! But I do like the idea of pre-packaging nightly meal items in a Wally World bag! Makes it grab and go in a way! I am getting really excited like a little kid! It sounds stupid after...
I did considered Toyo and Patagonia’s but in an agitated mood I went with what I know (BFG’s). I ran them on my 08 F350 so let’s hope they hold out for a while!
