Agree.. sometimes I feel like I am a professional researcher. I take my time and find just the right fit for what I need. My motivation is never "that would look cool" it's more about something providing a function. In a recent example, I was cleaning out the Jeep after a recent trip and decided...
That is certainly a tough and mostly subjective question. I️ think I️ have more knives than I️ can count, but I️ have found that the knives I️ carry most often while camping are these:
Benchmade Griptilian
Spiderco Para Military 2
Case pocket knife
Leatherman Charge TTi
One of those is on...
We used to do a bit of both, but prefer dispersed / boondocking above all else.
We found through our experiences that everyone has a different idea of what camping is or what it should be. If you come across a solo camper while you are out, they are usually very quiet.. don't slam vehicle...
I was just out in the mountains this past weekend and we slept in our RTT at about 25 degrees. We have a Autohome Maggiolina and we use flannel sheets and a down comforter. Neither the wife or I were cold at all during the night. I would feel very confident taking it down to the teens without...
Welcome aboard! I am new here myself but have been rolling around California in our Jeep for the last 7/8 years... Hope to see you out on the trails!

Just back from a camping trip and decided I was going to create more space in the Jeep and do a few minor maintenance items. Went through all our camping stuff and removed a bunch of stuff we never use. My main driver behind this thought was to prepare the Jeep for a drawer system and a fridge...
I have a autohome / Maggiolina on top of my Jeep. I used to take it off and on for every trip because I wanted to park the Jeep in the garage. Then I would have to put it on the hoist and raise it to the ceiling in the garage. Over time, we got it down to a science, but it still took time. We...
I don’t recall exactly, I think it was under 100 bucks... In looking at them, they are probably pretty straight forward to build yourself. I think the faucet is just a standard RV setup. Probably pick one from RV supply or online easily. The pump is the tricky bit, but I’m sure there are similar...
We've been using one of these from Living Overland. If you look on the site, they have a DIY kit and one that is assembled. Looks both are currently on back order, but you may be able to put one together with your own parts. Adding this to our kit has been one of the best mods we've done. It's...
I've tried a few variations over the years... One of them was the starbuck via packs. I really liked the simplicity of dumping the pack into a cup and you're set. After a while, I moved on to the Aeropress. I basically have a coffee kit now and store it all in an ammo can. Pack it with whole...
Congrats! Got any ideas for what radio to put in your rig? 857d was my choice.. pretty spendy for a radio, but I thought I may get into HF one day. Sure enough... I did. HF is nice when you are out of repeater range on 2m. 73!
Through a bit of trial and error, I've settled in with the DeWalt Tough Box system. They have a few different sizes to choose from and they are not too expensive. They have a decent seal on them to keep out moisture and dust. I have left them outside at camp in the rain and they did fine. Most...
Maybe not your total camp lighting setup, but I thought I would throw out a product I found that is useful. It's a LED lantern called CampGuard. It has a few different lighting levels and a built in motion detector. One setting allows for the light to trigger from motion, coupled with an audible...
Our medium carbon fiber maggiolina. Sits on top of the AEV (rhino) rack. Slept in a ground tent for years.. this is a huge improvement... warm and super comfortable. Negligible impact on mpg.
I second Tricklet03's comments. One of the best mods I've added to my Jeep. I have two odyssey 34-PC1500T in my rig and this setup has saved my bacon a few times. I installed the remote green screen monitor and find that to be pretty handy as well.

KK6DWJ checking in...
Running 857d in my Jeep. Initially got into amateur radio as a backup way to communicate while off grid. Have continued to dabble in it and explore. It still brings a smile to my face when I send/receive an email (over HF) to folks back at home while we are in the middle...
