I swapped over to the TD5 t-stat. Had similar temp change like @Archtop67. Always ran a steady 224*F with the stock unit, now running 190*F with the TD5 unit.
Where do you like to take your rig for repairs? Having a network of repair shops is always good to have when your out on an adventure. I'm looking for trusted repair shops along a route from Calgary, Mt Robson, Barriere, Kamloops, Kelwona, Lillooet, Whistler, to Vancouver.
Don't forget about the front driveshaft. Had a buddy pick up an '04 recently and the DS broke. Took out the transmission and a few other parts. From the factory they are "sealed for life". Of course they decided to place it 1" away from the cat as well, so the grease cooks inside the uj and you...
So the big meeting is happening on Monday, 4/30/2018. Here's a like to the Cal4 announcement about what's going on at Oceano Dunes and how you can help. Even if you've never been to Pismo before, the next location to face closure or restrictions could be YOUR favorite place.
Please take a few...
Heat build up from the brake happens when you are powering out the winchline under a heavy load. This is why you should stop and let the brake cool. Power out for no more than 20-30 seconds and let it rest for at least the same amount of time. If you are doing this on a regular basis, you should...
I always carry a set of wheel chocks in the truck. First set was part of the tire change kit from LR. They were awesome because they twisted in the middle for more efficient storage. But they were only good for mild slopes and factory sized tires.
Then I got a taller, stackable set from the...
It's more than likely just the dye from the rope. I have a 6' length of Dyneema I use to practice tying knots. Even after 5 years I still get a little blue on the hands to this day when I handle it.
You could check with the manufacturer of the pulley block for the appropriate lube to use, but...
Hi everyone! On Wednesday, I completed the first half of training to become a Land Rover Experience Instructor at the Carmel, CA location. The last half of training is this Sunday - Wednesday. Starting Monday, we are getting into lesson run throughs and Justin Demayo (who runs the center) is...
I would not recommend trimming your springs. If they haven't sagged, you could probably sell them and cover a good percentage of the cost of the new springs. Or, you may be able to do a straight up swap with someone.
You can't really go wrong with a Yeasu product. I have the VX-6R HT unit in my pocket, and the FT-8800R in the truck. The 8800 is discontinued, but the FT-8900R is basically the same thing, but a quad band. It's really 2 radios in one unit, has the detachable face, and cross band repeater...
This stuff works pretty darn well! My hands were covered in old engine and dirt from under the truck. Hey, it's a Land Rover, what did you expect??!!
It works really fast and has a nice scent afterwards. Here are a few pics.
Thanks @Chris Radalia!
That's called diving, and has more to do with how the rope is spooled than it is about heating up and melting. The first layer of rope on a drum can really look like it's melted too. It gets really shiny and compressed. As long as you can birdcage the lines and the fibers aren't melted, it...
The TS9500 has the brake inside the drum and is a very common setup for planetary winches. Generally, the heat buildup is caused when powering out the line under tension, like lowering a vehicle over a cliff. I've never seen or heard of a syn line friction melting to another layer as @smritte...
As long as there's a Schrader valve on the bag, yeah you can use CO2. But that is a limited supply so keep that in mind if you're going to use it a lot for that. I've been thinking about ditching my 20lbs. tank and getting a good Viar compressor.
