Welcome! I’m from central Maine originally but currently stationed down in Georgia. Nice to see some other Mainers on here. I’ll be moving back up this winter.
Today’s project was building out a platform in the back of the cab for my dogs. I’ve had the rear seats removed for about the last year and haven’t missed them at all. Gave me a lot more room for the dogs but I lost some storage space and because of the weird bump in the back of the truck I...
It may be worth a DIY write up. The front plates were cut out with a water jet I believe. Then the front plate is riveted to the wire mesh in the rear. Theres a thin rubber strip on the bottom and then it just sits in the window track. They are super easy to make and if you don’t have access to...
This is more or less what I have for my truck. They work for the rear windows in most vehicles pretty well. Mine are a little more complex but you can make them with a hole saw just fine.
Right now I’m running the stock tires. 265/75R16’s. Now that my body and suspension lift are in I’m going to go up to a 33” tire. My understanding is that with Frontiers to go to a 35 requires a lot of cutting regardless of your lift. I’d rather not cut up my truck just yet so for now 33’s will...
Today’s project: Installing my new GMRS radio. Pretty simple install, I hid the wiring behind the dash and under the center console but I didn’t hard wire anything. Haven’t really gotten a chance to use it yet and honestly have no idea what I’m doing with it. I really need to find a user manual...
I have the 55 as well and mine has gone on quite a few road trips and Overland adventures. No complaints from me! I’ve been thinking about getting the 28 as well as a drink cooler so I’m not constantly opening the big cooler every time I want a beverage. That should help my ice last a lot longer
Not quite done yet, but today I finished installing my front lift springs and I got my body lift installed! Also added one of the more important mods, my OB Emblem
After a lot of struggling yesterday I managed to get the front lift installed. It gave me around an extra 2”. Hopefully going to try tackling the rears today or tomorrow and then the body lift will go on last. Tried removing the front sway bar to see how bad it would be without one... it’s bad...
Mine is carpeted. Gives the dogs way more grip. With bare wood they would just slide around. On my back wall I have storage bins that run the width of the cab and are about 6 inches out and 10 deep. Gives me plenty of space for extra stuff.
Well I’ve been back in the US for less than 24 hours and the work has begun. Over the last 5 months I’ve actually stepped foot in 9 countries, circumnavigated the globe, had one day that lasted 31 hours and another day that only lasted 1 (when I crossed the international date line). To say that...
Did the same thing in my Nissan Frontier. Backseats never get used for people but I have two 80ish pound puppers. Not having the seat gives them so
Much more room to lay down and because there’s no risk of them falling off the seat into the footwell i think it’s actually much safer for them when...
I would recommend a full size axe. I used a hatchet for awhile and found that every trip I had to say to myself “why don’t I have an axe?” Currently I’m using a Fiskars splitting axe. You can find them on amazon pretty reasonable priced and they carry a lifetime warranty. I also have a cheap...
Research phase is just about complete. I ordered a rhino rack rail system that mounts to the cab of the truck. The rails are very similar to the ones on the camper shell so it should all match fairly well. Now it’s just a matter of taking the measurements once everything is here and ordering my...
Just did a little more research on the prinsu racks and since it looks like they are just extruded aluminum with end caps that may be the way to go. I just need to figure out a way to mount it to the cab and this could turn out really nicely for me!
Mine had a really nice set of Thule cross bars that were removable. I really like them because if I was going on a long trip and didn’t need the basket, I could unlock the feet to the cross bars and pull the whole thing off in a few minutes to give me that extra .5 mpg. Unfortunately the feet...
