Time for the daily update. Carpeted the top of the drawer system and added a very important beverage opener! Also painted the drawer faces and added handles to help pull them out.
Thanks! I had a 4 month vacation in the Middle East to plan out the whole thing! Nothing but free time to think of all the things I wished I had on my rig. Still need to add an onboard water system and fuel for my stove.
Are you sick of my daily updates yet?
Today I finished up the final assembly on the drawers and started figuring out where things will be living inside them. First picture is everything pulled out. The second one is in “cooking mode”. With the drawers pulled out to the tailgate I can still...
I keep a mismatched collection of random sockets, wrenches, etc, that I have acquired over the years in my rig. I supplement them with a couple sets of newer tools from harbor freight.
More progress today! Some of the cuts of wood are a little weird as I was trying to avoid going and buying a whole extra sheet. Got the big drawer all finished up minus some dividers and framed out the little drawer
A little more progress on the drawer system today. Made hopefully the last run to the hardware store and picked up all my plywood. The center drawer is 25.5” wide and around 57” long and 6” tall. Should give me plenty of room for gear. On the right side is going to be an additional 6”x6”x26”...
So far I love it. I’ve camped in it with myself, a friend, and both of my dogs (90 pounds each). It’s worked out pretty well for us. Sleeps 2 with the dogs really comfortably, could easily sleep 1 more adult and 2 more kids. The footprint is around 6.5’x8’.
I don’t think you can attach it to a...
I use an ARB awning with attached awning room. Sleeps around 4 people comfortably. It’s a little expensive for someone just starting out but if you want to go to an awning setup eventually anyways then it might not be a bad way to go.
Got everything buttoned up today. Roof rack mounted on the truck with my awning and hi lift jack. Obligatory picture of me standing on it. This rack is pretty solid and I’m actually really impressed with what I was able to accomplish. I have roof rails coming for the cab and when they arrive I...
I found a Maine plate and a Georgia plate stashed in my garage. Used to have some Virginia plates too but they seem to have gone missing. I’ve moved a half dozen times in as many years so no real surprise there. Shoot me a message and we can figure out the shipping
Finished bolting in my cooler/stove slide out today and started painting my new roof rack. May have gone a little overboard building this thing, but it is sturdy! I used superstrut to build it. Runs the entire length of my camper shell and on the sides it overhangs by a few inches. I wanted it...
This is a game changer. Spent the weekend building this cooler/stove slide out for my bed and I love it. Totally worth all the time effort and cursing. Haha.
Got my 300 lb drawer slides in today so hopefully I’ll be making some real progress on the drawer system this weekend. Also going to try my luck building a new roof rack.
Another update! Started working on my new drawer system for the bed. Currently, I have two 18” drawers that fit between the wheel wells. They are about 4 feet long. Then on either side i had two big cubby holes that I stored a bunch of random gear in. I learned a lot building that system but now...
I use iOverlander a fair amount. It’s usually what I use to find backup campsites. 90% of the time I find something much better on my way to the site I had picked out but it’s always nice to have alternates. Also if I’m in an area I haven’t been before I can get an idea of what’s in the area.
