I've heard 147.525 is what most people use. I found that through a Google search as well as saw it listed as posted messages on various Wires-X rooms.
Do a lot of people in your area use 145.5625?
Question for those who have more experience with APRSdroid than myself:
I have been using APRSdroid with a mobilinkd2 through a Yaesu HT. I received an FTM-100 for Christmas and, and while it does APRS, it can't do APRS and voice at the same time like the FTM-400 can. This is fine, since I...
Good point. There's definitely gaps in terrestrial coverage, so it shouldn't be relied upon solely. I'm definitely interested in working satellites for it as well, but I need to order a cable so I can use my ftm-100 with my mobilinkd2 and APRSdroid, since the 100 doesn't have the ARISS path...
I think that is what sparked my interest in APRS. I could care less about constantly beaconing my position around town... I want it in case I need it to share my location when I don't have cell service and/or to be able to send text messages out to give people an update on my well being or ask...
I think he was saying that since the radio he was talking about had a removable antenna, per the FCC rules, it was not legal for use on FRS frequencies. They're also not legal for use on GMRS. All GMRS radios must be approved by the FCC.
I don't know about DMR or D-STAR, but on Fusion, you can use the "Group Monitor" feature for keeping in contact with a convoy or other group. It will send out periodic inaudible data bursts and will get inaudible replies from other users that are in range. It then displays the call signs of...
I think amateur radio is like any other hobby or interest. Everyone has their thing that interests them most. Yes, there are some people that like to make contact, discuss what equipment they have and move on. There are people into distance contests on HF. Obviously there are people who use it...
You can't run APRS in the background on the 100 though. It's a dual band radio, but not dual receive. Some people miss that detail and end up a little disappointed. That said, I knew that when I got my 100 and I think it's a great radio! It has plenty of features for what I like and need.
You could theoretically use a tablet without GPS, but you'd have to manually enter your coordinates in the settings, which would be tedious depending on how you're using it.
