Yep! Ours is 2WD, but its more of a desert/dirt road crusing sort of rig.... But I've helped a buddy with a couple of his GMT800 trucks that were 4wd as well. They're great trucks even if the OEM suspension is somewhat lacking for off road use and durability. There is a ton of info on them...
My wife has this prob... she's 6'2" with long legs, she pretty much doesn't fit in anything smaller than a full size truck. She does OK in my Jeep, but its has some trouble with the clutch. She seems to fit ok in the soft top JT's that we looked at. We'll most likely be ending up with another...
Yeeeeep.
At least with most of my experiences in CA.
I'm sure others are going have some differing thoughts given different areas we all explore and how friggen huge the state is...
^^^^
I only have a rear locker in the Jeep, but when I'm stuck to the point where I'm not moving... I'm STUCK and i'll be winching. The winch and shovel are my two most used bits of recovery gear. I'd add an air compressor/jack/tire plugs as another recovery item as those have been things I've...
Same, this is a pretty chill group and people generally are less "uptight" over how one camps, cooks, navigates, drives, builds their car or truck. Nice chill vibe. :D
I picked up some flat fenders for the Jeep... hopefully this is the end of my tires rubbing at full compression. There are some inner fenders on the way as well, so hopefully those will be on this weekend. With any luck I'll be able to start on my overhead console this week to, but I'm not...
I don't think so, the accutune folks are awesome to work with too. They answered most of my inane questions and purely theory 'what if....' with a lot of patience, lol. Shoot em some mail and see...
I carry bolt cutters for this reason, and full tools, bailing wire, etc.
I've gotten locked inside supposedly open gates/roads in the National Forests in CA more than a few times. I'd much rather deal with the lock/chain/fence than having to go massively off trail or off designated roads in...
Yep, Ben is who I've been working with for the shock stuff and like figuring out what will work best for our 'not-quite a pre-runner, but gets driven like one' truck. He's an awesome dude!
Coilovers in the GMC has been a bit of an experiment/cluster fsk tbh, my partner ended up breaking one on our last trip so we had to stick the factory springs and standard shock back in while we get ready for the next stage in that truck.
The next stage for the front is to:
- Cut the factory...
So, @Pi_Baker and I are looking for a new, larger air mattress for when we're on trips together...
As our current options are either getting all the backpacking mats out (light but too thin...) or using the jeepsleep mattress which works, but its too small outside of the Jeep for the 3 of us...
little update...
@Pi_Baker and I cruised around on some easy trails in Hollister Hills, tried some tougher/steeper ones and nerves and the kid were the bigger limiting factors rather than the truck which is great. My crappy welds held up for the shock mount repairs, and the limit straps worked...
@Pi_Baker and I just picked up one of these... looks like it's an awesome tarp and a good alternative to a fixed awning on my soft top jeep. we'll post back here when we've played with it a bit
