West (and East) Camino Cielo are fun drives, the hot springs down there are fun places to check out as well. I think there is some road work on the east side going on for a while, but there are some great out of the way places out there to check out!
The main dirt roads into/out of the area are pretty mellow, but tight in some places with poor chances to pass. Not sure what the snow is going to be like up there... @JCWages lives near by and can provide some more trail intel. Bowman lake is going to be nuts this weekend so plan accordingly...
Saddly the Congo cage isn't really made anymore, I wish it was though, it has a little smaller profile. Rugged Ridge Jeep Wrangler Sherpa Roof Rack 11703.02 (07-18 Jeep Wrangler JK 4 Door)
this Rugged Ridge rack will end up doing what I need it to do with out being too huge or in the way...
I agree with you there, fwiw... LOL.
Honestly if I had an easier way to get two rigid cross bars on the soft top, I'd skip a full rack type system if I could.
I think if your goal is a on/off road rally beater, a low buck awd/fwd hatch would be a BLAST!
This is weighing it against a sort of medicore, small CUV with no after market parts or suspension, skids, armor, and other exterior stuff. Plus less bad feels if you stuff it into a ditch or whack...
LOL
This is pretty much just going to be used to haul a SUP or surf boards around. It might become a home for lights/chase bar but I'm not planning on putting anything up there like gear or cargo. Honestly the Rugged Ridge rack is about 99% of what I need.
So, I'm in the market for a rack for my JKU... I've been putting off getting one for my jeep... but after ordering an epoxy SUP, I'm going to need to get a rack.
Honestly, I don't like having a lot of weight up top on the Jeep, so I'm not looking forward to most of the racks that'll work with...
The truck got some love today! Locking UCA cams, new tie rod boots on the steering rack, bumpstop refresh for the front and new shocks in the rear.
I still have to play with the rear shock mounts a bunch and relocate the reservoirs a bit more out of the way..
This is a super cool build! It totally has a Baja bug vibe to it, as well.
The motor swap is super cool too, is there any cooling issues with the swapped motor? I know a big part of the BMW bike cooling comes from being able to radiate a LOT of heat from heads/block castings themselves, do you...
Our 2wd truck will get sliders at some point, we've had some trips in Death Valley were the truck got put up against some rocks and dinged the fender flares/door pretty well, Sliders would have prevented that. Its also gotten rubbed up against some trees and again sliders would have helped. My...
Today's work was swapping the rear coils (again, 5th time... ugh.) from a metal cloak 3.5 to a 4.5 due to me killing the other set in like 9mo.
Planning how to attack this...
dead 3.5 springs vs not dead 4.5 springs
mocking up the new perches...
new springs and perches in...
Final...
Anxiety can be rough in those situations as the "what if's" can spiral out of control really fast for someone who doesn't have experience or good decision making skills under pressure. My partner has super bad anxiety and getting them outside more frequently was a lot of work both in helping...
Last time I looked the pickins were slim for 1x2 or 2x1 calls...
That said I consider my call sign a vanity call because it was easier to get extra than it was to fight with ULS and applying for vanity calls. It totally doesn't mean anything and my old call was one that was always misunderstood.
There are ways to get that sheen with AL and to keep it, but it generally involves clearish anodize, and it still ends up being a bit of a different color than bare polished/machined AL. Relatedly, how does the AL cover hold up on the trucks? When we replace the G80 in our truck with something...
The Aluminum has oxidized, so the dullness won't be going anywhere. You could bead blast it and that'd take the surface passivization off, but it'd just look like that again in a few years, depending on where it gets driven at. Personally I'd just leave it...
Just kinda happened upon this thread... Looks like you hit up a bunch of the cool spots down around SLO. I haven't explored a bunch of those trails in a LONG time, but they are fun! Your post and pics of the Rock Front OHV area really bring back some memories when I lived in Santa Barbara/Goleta...
I'll have to check that out when I'm not at work... sleeping in the back is one of the drawing factors of getting this soft topper for my partner so that sounds like it'd be good for that...
@Road I was wondering when your van was gonna show up here! I have a love/hate relationship with those vans, I drove a 1/2 ton Express Van for a few years in college at a job working a not for profit art thing and well. They have a lot to be desired in how they drive and behave but they don't...
