I gotta bail on this trip, I have too much going on at work + plus some minor stuff the week after. Already canceled the rsvp thing. Hope yall have a fun! take lots of pics!
Reminder that straps and ropes need to get checked for abrasion and wear. Soft shackles are also must haves in addition to steel shackles. When I get home from work I can put up a more comprehensive list on inspection of slings, rope and straps.
We had a strap fail on us this past weekend...
I had an hour or so before a trip this past weekend so I got started on my kit… wound the main transformer then got most of the caps/diodes and crystals into the board.
If I have time tonight, ill get the rest of it finished up.
I read through the build manual a few days ago and its totally a fun, low effort build. Well, fun and low effort for me, anyways. The documentation is GREAT for the build and testing. Its a lot more thorough than I was expecting.
I'm building mine with a few of the add-ons and I'm planning on...
Looks like it was a perfect weekend down there! Los Burros Rd and S Coast Ridge are pretty doable in 2wd trucks as long as they have good tires and air down a little bit (think 20-25 psi), as you know its not really needed for a 4x4 truck, but one of the concerns that the rangers have mentioned...
Very nice, while it isn't a full locker... I think you'll enjoy how well they work in a 2wd application. I have TT's in the front and rear of my jeep now and they're fantastic.
STORY TIME! Late last year I destroyed a front ring gear on a trail (spider gears failed, ate the ring gear after)...
I'm bumping this thread up again after a year, but I just ordered a QCX+ kit and enclosure, so that'll be a fun build whenever it gets here. I was planning to pick up a QDX Digital transceiver from them, but they ran out of kits pretty fast on those so here we are.
Just put an order in for a bunch of valve shims and some shock servicing tools... I still have to track down some longer reservoir hoses, shock fluid, rebuild kits, IFP's and shock fluid, but its almost time to pull the shocks and rebuild/revalve em.
There isn't a lot around the South Bay or the Peninsula that is really off-road driving per say but there are some spots...
Lost Coast, Big Sur, Mt Madonna/Summit Road, Buzzard Lagoon Rd in Santa Cruz, Hollister Hills OHV, are the only things around locally. There are a few other unpaved dirt...
Any resolution to this OP? Casting sand was a common thing for early 3.6 motors. A couple other possibilities include: air trapped in the heater core, Tstat gone out or other FOD obstruction into the cowl airtake or lower air ducts.
Getting the heater core bleed fully is a bit of a pain, but...
The folks I wheel with frequently that have 4R's have all removed it or sought out trucks without it from the factory. Then again they're also running LT suspensions, or are considering stuff like Marlin Crawlers RCLT. Most of them didn't like the way it drove or some of the transitions between...
HAM and cell phone here, I'll use GMRS or FRS if needed, but at the moment I only have a 2m rig in my jeep. Out west 2m is the way to go for group comms but getting most folks in the party to actually get a amateur radio license is a different kind of challenge.
That said, the mobile (15w)...
Nice rig! I'm still pretty impressed with what a 2wd, good tires and a locker can do. Throw in good suspension and some articulation and its even better. I'm always amazed at what our 2wd GMC Sierra can do and the places its been.
The only issues we've had with ours off-road have been either...
Im guessing for home-station communication or logging. Or they have a need for RTTY packet radio reasons or to get aggregate road/weather conditions from home base or something.
Those are the reasons I could think of, lol.
