    Heading to Cape Lookout

In my opinion, CALO offers the best beach camping on the east coast. Next time, try the northern (Portsmouth Island) section. It seems to have a more 'remote' feeling to us,

    FIREWOOD

As noted in a prior response, we don't transport firewood but now rely on a propane fire pit for the most part. However, this past weekend we camped at the USFS Powhatan campground in Pisgah National Forest. The grand kid wanted a 'real' fire one night so I broke down and purchased two bundles...

    Where to Camp?

Go to Recreation dot gov Lots of campgrounds in White Mountains NF that accept reservations have availability in June and July. Also Forest Camping - Fred and Suzi Dow is a great source for info on campsites in all our National Forests. It looks like all the USFS campgrounds for this NF...

    SUPER CLEAN INSTALL

Very clean install - I have a MXT275 in a 19 Colorado with the same antenna and a couple of their handhelds so especially appreciate your work. My base is under the rear seat with an extension cable to a RJ11 bulkhead plug for the mic in the console fairing beneath the dash. I'm satisfied with...

First time wheeling on the beach

Nice looking truck and a great way to break her in. We're from northeastern NC and really enjoy visiting and camping on our National Seashores (Cape Hatteras and Cape Lookout). Cape Lookout is especially nice as you can camp most anywhere between the dunes and the high tide line. Nothing...

    Jerry Cans

And, even more telling, the MWC's have 'WATER' imprinted on the side:astonished:

    Jerry Cans

Another Scepter fan here but be aware Scepter also makes military water cans that look similar to their fuel cans. The water cans will have a single bar for a handle at the top and the fuel cans will have three.

Portsmouth Island (Cape Lookout NS) 5/14-17

Confirmed our ferry reservations this PM w/ Kari (11:00 over on Fri & 15:45 back on Mon). Me and the missus tenting. Black Colorado CC. GMRS will be on and scanning. Stop by and say howdy. Kari said she had a few more slots open on/around these dates if anyone else is interested. Al

Simple 20Lb Propane Rack Mount Solution

Actually, I’m not sure it’s technically a ‘bike lock’; that’s just what I first used it for. The cable passes through the lock mechanism and cinches down when the key is turned. I don’t have a good picture but search Amazon for ‘python cable lock’ and you’ll turn up several hits. It’s a...

Simple 20Lb Propane Rack Mount Solution

I use an adjustable bike cable lock on mine (through the tank handle and under the load bar) which also solves (to some degree) potential theft problems.

    Cape lookout, NC

We'll be on the Portsmouth Island section within the next couple of weeks - just need to get a forecast for four days without rain. You heading there or South Core?

    FIREWOOD

As noted. we've also found many of the places we like to camp require firewood to be purchased locally and/or certified kiln dried or have banned campfires entirely. I both understand and agree with these policies but, in my experience, the quality of local wood is questionable at best and two...

    Winches

Heavily used Warn M8000 w/ wire on the TJ for twenty years. I replaced the solenoid controller pack due to corrosion once but no problems afterwards since I now keep it and the winch covered. Come Up Seal Gen2 9.5RS w/ synthetic on the Colorado which has been problem free in limited use. I...

how hard is it on the mid east coast to find good overlanding places?

when do you go? We usual go either the second or third week in May. We will be there May 13th-16 this year Portsmouth Island or South Core Banks? The missus and I may be on PI around that time. If you see a black Colorado, stop by for a cold one.

On board air or portable tank

I've had a York on my TJ for twenty years - great choice!!! Three gallon tank beside the frame rail and a hand throttle to set the RPM's at 1750 and my air tools are good to go. Removed the lug nuts on my zero turn earlier this AM to access the gas tank and patch a leak. Wish there were a...

spend 39 minutes of your life here

Thanks for posting this - brought back a ton of memories. I was drafted in 69 and was fortunate enough to spend most of my tour in southern AZ with several other car guys. I had a 327, 4 spd, 3.55 posi, 68 Camaro w/ Edelbrock, Holley, Hooker, Lakewood, Mallory, etc. mods. Also in our group...

    Help! ZR2 vs. Rubicon

My criteria - 1) Ability to tow a 3500# fifth wheel camper (Actually, a hybrid bumper pull but a bed mounted hitch none the less). 2) Handle moderate off road trails and USFS/BLM backroads. 3)Comfortable for long distance drives (500+ miles per day). Previous vehicles meeting these condition...

Deal on water cans (LCI) update with link to insulated carrier page 6

They can often be found on ebay but they ain't cheap, especially with shipping. If you live near a military base, its not unusual to see them on local craigslist or facebook classifieds at much better pricing..

Deal on water cans (LCI) update with link to insulated carrier page 6

Nah, I think you're good here. As stated in another post, I have two Scepter MFC cans and one Ability One MWC (which I think may be identical to the LCI product). My wrench is from JAGMTE (full circle style) and fits the Scepters perfectly but will not work on the MWC - the tabs around the...
