    Subaru Forester - '18 XT

Thought I'd share a few pics of the interior! Since I work as a photographer, it's very handy to be able to carry my serious equipment (e.g. 30 lbs worth of large gear) with ease. You can also see my new battery monitor in the pic above! And my cabinets/tie down area. Great for larger...

Mitsubishi Outlander Sport light over land build

Hah yup, I can relate. There's more for mine, but nothing near Jeep/Toyota territory!

Mitsubishi Outlander Sport light over land build

Looking good! I appreciate that you fabricate a lot of your own accessories yourself. It tends to be more rewarding that way. ;)

    Falken or Kumho???

I have the Falken Wildpeak AT3W's on my Forester, and I love 'em! Currently running 225/65r/17. I've found them great as an off-road/snow tire (they are Severe Snow Service Rated, as I'm sure you know) but they do great in shallow mud and of course dirt as well. Ride isn't too loud, the...

    Subaru Forester - '18 XT

So today was the last day for the Hi-Lift jack being on sale. I bought it, and it turns out I can borrow my friend's Lift-Mate. I'll give it a try over the weekend to see how it suits my vehicle. I'm thinking it'd be useful to help slip my traction boards underneath, and as a short, 4-ton...

    Subaru Forester - '18 XT

Glad to hear about your experiences! I'll wait to hear what others have to say as well about the Hi-Lift and the Subaru, but it certainly sounds promising. I've always been ambivalent about them because I've heard a lot of horror stories, but at the same time, I figure if you're safe and don't...

    Subaru Forester - '18 XT

Thanks for the tips @Wawa Skittletits and @njedgexj ! I looked at the Wyeth-Scott model, and while it seems like a great piece of kit, it's way out of my price range (I'm still a student; textbooks are expensive and the 91 octane I need for my engine ain't cheap)! Still, I want to be...

    Subaru Forester - '18 XT

I'm looking to get a new, beefier come-along winch. Some advice on what to buy would be appreciated. So far I have it narrowed down to the following: http://www.maasdam.com/6000s.html (Nice, but HUGE. USA Made). http://www.maasdam.com/144sb-6.html (I'm concerned if it's underpowered, although...

    X-Bull Recovery Tracks...another inexpensive alternative

I don't know where in Canada you are, but I shipped my Amazon-purchased X-BULL to one of those package holding places just south of the border in Detroit (I used SCC). I think the eBay-listed ones will ship to Canada though. Regardless, great product! I've used them with my Forester; twice for...

    My SH Subaru Forester

Great to see another Foz on here! :sunglasses: I have a '18 FXT, my friend has an '07 - but I love 'em all!

    Dual battery questions

This is similar to what I did for the dual battery setup in my Forester; tapped an empty fuse location which would only get power when the engine was running. This, in turn, would close the solenoid contacts and let power flow from the alternator to the second battery. When the engine is off...

Land Rover Discovery4 / LR4 DIY Roof Rack

I was thinking of powder coating mine as well. Since it comes anodized already, it would adhere nicely. I'm not sure which profile you used, but if it's 30 series or 15 series, I found that 5/16 carriage bolts will fit down the slots as long as you shave a bit off the sides. I used them to mount...

Land Rover Discovery4 / LR4 DIY Roof Rack

Great to see another person using 80/20 for roof racks. Love that stuff - lightweight, and it holds up very well!

    Subaru Forester - '18 XT

No worries about cluttering my thread haha - your tips, questions, and answers are all generously appreciated! I've decided to keep the tow strap and will consider a recovery rope in the near future. That, along with a winch (Princess Auto has the often-recommended 4500 lbs Superwinch on sale)...

    Subaru Forester - '18 XT

Yeah, I'm pretty much sold on the LP bumper guard. I think I'll buy that, and fabricate my own skidplates for it out of .063 aluminum. I believe that's what Primitive uses? Also, the strap I got is a polyester tow strap. I figured it'd be a better option since I plan on using it as a come-along...

    Subaru Forester - '18 XT

Thanks for the tip about Ontario Overland - just joined! I bought a 3" x 30' strap today. It has an ultimate break of 15,000 lbs, which I figure is adequate for my Forester, which comes in at 3550 lbs when fully loaded.

Ontario Member Thread: Post your locations

From London/Komoka area. Been here all my life, just getting into some light off-roading with my Subaru Forester (set up as more of a car camper/basecamp rather than a true off-roader).

Welcome from the west side of the city. Great to see another person from nearby! If you see a brown Subaru Forester around - it's probably me!
