I am a professional photographer (website) and as others have said, it is a ridiculously difficult profession to get into. That said, if you have a passion for it, well... nothing competes!
Don't get me wrong - I consider myself successful - but even then, I do other things to supplement my...
No material engineer here either, but looks like you might be right - ABS is more flexible than Nylon, but also much harder.
Aside from working better in the cold, this seems to be a worse choice than Nylon.
EDIT: might actually be a better choice... I read the graph wrong at first.
A couple...
Has anyone tried either of these recovery boards?
1. Rugcel/Smittybuilt
2. DPT Recovery Ladder
They both seem to be the other inexpensive alternatives to X-BULL. I'm wondering if they'd fare better in cold weather - choice 2 in particular - which is ABS and not nylon like...
Except for one of them cracking a month ago. Not sure why that happened. It was pretty cold out and they did have to flex a bit (wasn't expecting anything unreasonable from them though). It should be covered under their warranty, so I'll report back with what happens...
Been a while since I last made an update... Things have been keeping me busy at university, but I had time to install a solar panel!
Began with some vinyl wrap and knifeless tape to follow the contours of the hood bulge.
I then applied 3M VHB tape to the rear of the panel. The VHB will...
Spent the afternoon on a friend's property and at a local park cleaning up litter. Something a bit different than the "typical" overlanding stuff!
All in all, we collected 8 bags worth of trash, most of it was illegally dumped on or near protected marsh/bog land.
Took a detour around the...
Lookin' good! Always nice to see another set of those Falken AT3W's out in the wild and on a Subaru. I'm interested to see how you install the breather hose - I've been meaning to do the same on my Forester.
Awesome story, and well-written too! It's always cool to hear about other overlanders like myself who are in college, but still making the effort to get out there and explore! I admire being able to incorporate it into your studies - it's exactly what I want to do some day.
Another thing worth noting; 48 Ah seems to be the minimum. I'm struggling a bit on 35Ah even just charging a laptop and flashlight (neither of which were completely drained). A smaller battery + an Optima Yellowtop is something to consider is space is at a premium though. (Don't neglect your...
I think I'll check this out! There aren't too many overland-related things to do or people to meet in my end of Ontario (at least, that's what I've found so far)...
Are there any places just south of the border you can ship to? Around here, there are few in Michigan that let us Canadians ship to them.
EDIT: Bought my pair from Amazon USA.
Consider adapted lenses. You can get some great Contax/Yaschica lenses made by Zeiss for Canon bodies, M42, etc. If you don't mind manual focus, they're a great way to get high quality in an inexpensive and often smaller size. mflenses.com is a great resource.
Like DirtySantana said; bodies...
Yup - I scan and develop myself! C-41 chemicals in my an old laundry tub, and digitzing them with an Epson V600. It's very low cost and simple.
Digital infrared isn't necessarily "final" - you can convert back to normal colour by putting a "hot mirror" filter onto your lens. It's the same kind...
Canadian here! I've used them in muddy snow several times. They're bolted to the roof of my Forester all the time. I'm not sure what plastic they used, but it seems to be holding up well - it's not the same as Maxtrax's fiber-reinforced nylon though. I have heard a couple stories of them...
I have an internal 5.5 gallon tank that'll last me about 5 days before needing a refill.
Water runs from the tank to a Camco TastePure, which helps remove particulate matter. It is suctioned through the pump, and pushed through a UV water filter, up to my sink:
I also have a spray nozzle...
@XJinBC Props to you for using the Mamiya. Those are great cameras. I had a RB67 in the past.
I shoot both professionally and for fun - mostly "New Topographics" stuff - which is basically a mix of natural and man-made landscapes. A lot of my work consists of big panoramas on medium format film...
