If you can stretch the drive to the tail head to around 2-2.5 hours, there are quite a few options for mountain view trails in the Salida area. I've not ran these personally, but two that I think would really fit your needs would be:
Billings Lake
Aspen Ridge
Near Pueblo, not a whole lot I'm afraid. Defiantly not anything that you could call mountainous. How far are you willing to travel to get to a trail? Medano Pass is about 1.5 hours from downtown Pueblo and is a neat trail. No epic mountain views, but it does have the unique benefit of...
What is your time frame for being in the area? There are lots of places to disperse camp in the Ouray area... but mid to late July is pretty busy. August starts the raining season with regular afternoon showers.
National Forest and BML lands have dispersed camping pretty much anywhere. This...
@Wotan How do you like that solar panel? I've got a rigid 100w panel that I'd like to replace with something more portable. I'd like one I could lay across the windshield without worrying about it scratching the glass and one that would lay relatively flat against it.
I have not :( May turned out very busy for me and I've not had a chance to really look at a June outing. A quick thought would be northwest CO the 14-17 June. But that would depend on when my son goes to his grandparent's... and we don't know that date just yet due to a death in the family.
For me it is their subscription pricing/features they need to work on, even the older devices are just fine in my mind.
Where they at the Expo? I must have missed them.
Sorry guys, I forgot to come back and update this. I was hoping to find some correlation between when you guys requested my location and a waypoint/notation on the map. I could not find any. From my end it is invisible when someone tries to locate me. Thank you to everyone that posted up...
My buddy and I will be rolling in some time mid morning on Friday. Here is are planned route:
The different track colors indicate days. We'll be camping overnight on the way down.
There is a Colorado section on Wrangler Forums (towards the bottom of the main page) where trail runs are always being posted and planned. Once you figure out your exact dates, you should make a post there about what you would like to run difficulty wise. You'll get some suggestions and...
My suggestion would be to add armor if they make it for your truck (sorry, don't know anything about Silverado) and larger offroad tires if you can fit them before adding a lift. You are going want those two things anyways and the lift is going to bring in its own set of tradeoffs and "issues"...
Where are you going that your truck in it's stock form can not get you there? You have to answer that question first before you can figure out what you need. Post up some of the places you would like to do, and we can better help you decide what you might need.
