Looking to get out to the area in the near future to poke around and explore. Was wondering if anyone had any spots or suggestions for dispersed camping. May possibly have a small trailer but more than likely will be tent camping out of my 4X4. Thanks in advance for any and all suggestions.

While Durango is nice, the best scenery is north, as in Silverton, Ouray, and Telluride.

I agree with what @old_man said. Unless there is a specific reason to stay in the Durango area, I'd head just a little further north.

What is your time frame for being in the area? There are lots of places to disperse camp in the Ouray area... but mid to late July is pretty busy. August starts the raining season with regular afternoon showers.

National Forest and BML lands have dispersed camping pretty much anywhere. This is a great online map for CO. From that one you can get down to the more detailed maps surrounding Ouray. North and east of Ouray and south and west.
