GRMS vehicle mounted and handheld with location finding like Garmin Rino units?

I'm looking for a GMRS setup that would allow me to have a vehicle mounted unit for more power/range and a handheld unit my kid could take with him to go explore around our campsites. I'd also like it if there as a location/find feature like the Garmin Rino radios have. That way if something...

    Forestry Trunk Road, Alberta

I'm a Gaia user as well, but I'll definitely checkout the Backroad Mapbooks. Thanks for the tip on those. Thank you very much for this kind offer. It is always nice to have someone local to reach out to if things go sideways on a trip. Depending on my final dates and route locations, perhaps...

    Forestry Trunk Road, Alberta

Thanks for the detailed response Craig. I forget about iOverland. I tried it many years ago and found it lacking and never really went back to it. I'll check it out again now and see what I can find. One of my main goals is to avoid civilization and pavement as much as possible. That said...

    Forestry Trunk Road, Alberta

I just recently became aware of the FTR while researching and planning for my trip from Colorado to Tuk next summer. Does anyone have some good suggestions for a campsite or two on the southern end near Coleman? I'll be travelling in either my Gladiator with my OGT trailer as picture below, or...

    Idaho bdr

Thanks. I'm doing Colorado to the artic ocean (Dempster) next summer and your original post made me consider running the IDBDR as the first part of that. Unfortunately, I think it will add too much extra time onto the trip. I'll just have to do this one as a stand alone trip one day. That...

Nice! How long did it take you to do the (mostly) full BDR?

Dispersed Camping in BC and Canada in general?

My trip is not until next summer, so no updates on it yet! The ferry crew might be willing to take us across, but that would be a big risk. I was looking at heading north on the east side pf the lake and taking that ferry over to the west side to continue north. If they were not able to help...

Rethinking many aspects of our Overlanding setup and goals.

It will be worth the wait! We picked up a new pre-built Expedition 2.0 that had all the options we wanted plus some I did not (want to pay for) at a better price then I could order a custom built one, so we just picked up the in stock unit. At that time, they only had a 4 week delivery time on...

Congrats on the Pando order, you guys are going to enjoy it so much! That is a sweet wrap as well.

2020 Ram 2500 Power Wagon Build

I have to use adapters between my Jeep and the trailer, but I can replace the hubs on my trailer to match the PW's (I need to verify that, but I believe I'm reading it all correctly). This whole thing might be just a mental exercise however, due to the vehicle shortage going on right now :(

2020 Ram 2500 Power Wagon Build

Oh, and road comfort and MPG do matter to me as well. I've got a 30 day trip to the artic ocean planned for next year. That's a lot of miles and seat time.

2020 Ram 2500 Power Wagon Build

I did the whole 37s thing on my JKUR when I was rock crawling. On my JT, I've stuck with 35s since that is the largest tire I can fit on my trailer. I'll do the same if I get the PW. I want the truck and trailer spares to be interchangeable. Exterior mods would only be the RSI cap and some...

2020 Ram 2500 Power Wagon Build

Thanks. A co-worker of mine says he normally gets 12 here in Colorado Springs, but he is on 37s. If I make the switch to the PW, I'd be happy with 14s daily and anything above 10 with my OGT trailer.

What is your mpg with and without the trailer? I take about a 6 mpg hit when I hook up my trailer to the Gladiator.

Rethinking many aspects of our Overlanding setup and goals.

I looked at trailers for 2 years, even going to one of the Overland Expo events to check them out in person. There were several trailers that I liked and every time I optioned them out the way I wanted, they were all in the $27k~$32k range. At that price range I was not willing to still be...

Rethinking many aspects of our Overlanding setup and goals.

I've got a OGT Expedition 2.0 that we really love. It only limits the places we can go due to the turn radius. The Pando is basically the same except for the kitchen location and layout. We looked at both the Exp and Pando side by side and decided that the Exp was a better setup...

2020 Ram 2500 Power Wagon Build

Thanks for the info. My fridge/slider combo is just under 20", so that is plenty of clearance. Nice pic of the truck and Milky Way... I do a lot of those as well!

2020 Ram 2500 Power Wagon Build

Nice build so far! I'm actually in the research phase of replacing my Jeep Gladiator with a Power Wagon. The RSI SmartCap was on my possible list of mods for the Gladiator, so it is good to see that they have one for the PW as well. It is also good to know that it will not work with the Ram...

Dispersed Camping in BC and Canada in general?

That does look like the one. From the sounds of it, it is for logging trucks only :(

Does anyone know if that is a public ferry crossing on Babine Lake, just a little south of the Babine Lake Marine Provincial Park - Pierre Creek Site? If so, I've not been able to find any info on it.
