It's 3am and oh my god... I need to go to bed... but I just completed my months-long rear Forester swing-out bumper/tire carrier/hitch receiver/whatever. I'm so happy with how this project turned out! Welcome to the club @Gone_xtrkn and @CubanCowboy !!

OB Approved Two is One, One is None Rule

For that, I've found it really helpful to "knoll" my kit out. Something like this. A few times a year, I'll Take all my stuff out, spread it out on a tarp or something, and go through each and every thing and ask myself if I still need it, or if that space could be better used for something...

Yeah, I think one of the best attributes of Subarus is how lightweight they are. Around here, we have plenty of mud. With the except of clay, I coast right over that stuff like few others do, and with a bit of momentum, the AWD really does a fantastic job at it. Going too heavy, you tend to hurt...

For me, gas cans make sense because if I'm traveling far it's up in Canada's north; where gas stations are few and far between. You can't guarantee if they'll have 91, 89, let alone any gas at all. Also, the distances are vast, and I can probably go places for more time and further away, than...

Ontario Member Thread: Post your locations

The only trails in this part of Ontario that I can think of off hand, around here, are closed in the winter and used as snowmobile routes. If you know of anything, definitely share. I agree... muddy roads are much better than paved parking lots :)

Hey, welcome @Farook Ismail! We just had a small meet, about a month ago, but I'd be up for another. If not trails, Bass Pro seems to work well (which is what we did last time).

What Did You Do With Your Rig Today?

I'm at about 75 lbs to give a conservative estimate of the entire bumper weight, and I've got 200 lbs to play with, going by tongue weight (though the identical Australian Forester has a listed tongue weight of 330 lbs - the only difference is they have a stock transmission cooler). With 1 wheel...

What Did You Do With Your Rig Today?

Thanks! I've welded plenty before, but this is my first time doing something for my rig. Very happy with how it's turned out!

What Did You Do With Your Rig Today?

Got a lot of work done on my bumper build. Added a 2" receiver, and did a bit of welding for the tire carrier.

Steel winch cable vs synthetic rope

The only time I'd really, strongly suggest synthetic rope, is if you're using a hand-winch or come-along. Mostly because you're standing in the danger zone while operating it. If you need to save on weight or really need field-repairability, synthetic makes sense too. For something vehicle...

OB Approved Two is One, One is None Rule

I solo a lot, or go out with a friend - but more often than not, it's just my vehicle out there. I can attest to having backups for your equipment, as well as some redundancy and some novelty. What I mean; have a couple extraction methods that aren't just copies of each other (if your winch line...

Ah, a familiar struggle with the 2.0 XT Forester ;-)

Maybe I've asked this before, but what MPG do you get with the tire up there? How were things with the AT tires but nothing on the roof, if you ever drove it that way?

FOR SALE ONT, Canada - 2018 Subaru Forester XT + ADF 2.5" lift + custom rear bumper + camper Interior

Just feeling this out and seeing if there's any interest in my Subaru. Not sure if I want to sell it as an overlanding rig or return it to stock, but in any case, I'm looking to sell. I need a large truck or van to live in/work out of long-term (i.e. vandwelling - I'd rather not rent an...

Very good point; that too is something I am very concerned with, and why I chose the Wildpeaks over the very heavy KO2's. @shaynes1776 I'd assume they're running a full-size spare, if that's what you're asking?

    Subaru Owners Registry

It looks like a Lug-All model custom-built for US Tower, as the serial number follows Lug-All's conventions but is not of a model listed on their website, even though it has all their stampings and boiler plate - the best way to describe it would be as an "in-between" I guess, as it is similar...

Thanks for the tips everyone, especially @Sasquatch SC for all that detail. Much appreciated! I'm still holding strong for the Coopers, though the Toyos look appealing as well, if I can get them at the right price. They both have the same tread warranty at 65k as I recall, and both seem to be...

Any reports on the Cooper Discoverer A-T3 4S in similar terrain? They seem to be what I'm leaning towards the most.

I've been looking for a good offroad/summer on-road tire for my Forester, which is currently running a ADF 2" front 2-7/8" rear lift (to account for added weight from a steel bumper/tire carrier/interior done up as a very small camper - it sits closer to 2-1/2"). I have no wheel spacers only the...
