Thanks Roger,
I'm presently a member of DiscoWeb, LandRoversOnly, and the Expedition Portal. I haven't run across anything yet that I couldn't find info on at one of these sites. Well with exception of free parts and shipping!!
I'll add landyzone to my favorites.
Yes! that's pretty much my idea for use. My sons buddy has one of the Pelican/Hardigg versions. I tried unsuccessfully to buy if off him. I have seen these run into the $300 plus range. I'm gonna try one of the old ones for $75.
Anybody use one in their rig? My carpentry skills suck and a set of factory built drawers just aint in the budget. I thought this might be a cheaper option if you don't sleep in your rig. There are some close to me for $75 each.
This topic is mighty familiar.

I have 3. A 26 qt and 2-45qts. very happy with the price, quality, and performance.
Oh well. Rack purchase didn't happen. Guy sold it out from under me after talking on the phone about it twice. Still on the hunt for one close to Atlanta.

Yeah I know that's the usual set up. To do that on my 4runner, it'd be stretched from the windshield all the way back to the rear of the front door. That nearly the length of the rack itself. I'll keep dicking around with it and get it to quiet down.
Well. It works. but the drumming noise @ 50--70 MPH is terrible. Now I have to figure out how to fabricate a wind deflector. Not sure whether it needs to between the rack and roof, or on top of the rack.
So much for making one that was low enough not to make noise.
Used a cheapo Harbor Freight trifold ATV loading rack. I removed one section to shorten it some. and bolted it to some home-built cross bars.
What cha think? Sorry, can't get the pics to rotate. :-(
Anybody familiar with the rack pictured. Looks like a factory accessory and I can't determine from the picture if it's multiple pieces. Present owner isn't sure. I'm thinking of picking it up but I hate to pull a trailer 3hrs if it'll break down and fit in my 4 Runner.
Thanks Jethro,
From what I understand the rig is pretty capable in the stock form. Based on the list of issues it has, I'll probably be bored with it before the modification phase, and sell it on to someone else. We shall see.
A 10/96 production date to be exact . I know of issues with cylinder liners slipping and cooling issues. However, in the few forums I've joined there weren't may post on transmission or transfer, or axle problems. So are these three pretty bullet proof and just need a good servicing.
Thanks...
