I retired mt Xterra from DD duty once I got it paid off. I had done so many mods I was sick of burning fuel and mileage to drive to work, and wanted something I could do roadtrips with if there were no offroading planned. Picked up a 2017 Ford Escape...then COVID happened and I've been working...
I run a 2014 Xterra and I really enjoy it. Price point at the time with me, and the engines and transmissions are usually bulletproof. Unfortunately I'm not too familiar with the 1.5 gen (the 2002 you're looking at). The only thing I have noticed is that aftermarket upgrades are starting to dry...
I would say you don't NEED one. I've gone to Vermont Overland twice (and run some of the Class IV's during the summer) and I've never been in a situation where I would have wished I had one.
From an Xterra point of view (not sure what you are running) the only thing you would NEED to do is...
Sorry it took so long to reply. Not sure if you went ahead and pulled the trigger on the hood decal.
I got the dry fit one and I HIGHLY recommend that you make sure you either do it in a decently cooled garage, or pull the hood and bring it inside (which is what I did). DO NOT try to install it...
Nice! I sometimes kick myself for not going Titan Swap. But NH has fender laws and I couldn't justify it. Oh well.
Replacing the rear springs to Alcans is my next buy. What pound springs do you have up front? And how have the springs been so far?
That sound interesting. Would love to see pictures when the suspension is in. I really like the RS! Also would be interested when you finally solve the Trouble with Tribble. I know it took me awhile to figure out what worked for me, but with a bikepacking/hiking mentality it will be much easier...
Personally I'm against credit on almost anything (I do make exceptions for a Home and a vehicle). I would say if you're looking at overland gear, you probably don't need any of it unless you live out of your rig.
Currently running CB and GMRS. Last time I used CB was to relay messages from the group that was running GMRS to the lone guy using CB. But I'll give that guy credit, because he had something. There were a few "loaner" radios running in that group who didn't have anything.
Realized I forgot to give a Trip Report on KOAR 2020. Took place in Copper Harbor, MI. Was about a 1500 miles drive each way, but was well worth it. Ran into Fletch from All Things Overlanding and did some runs with a great group of guys. Got to try out Tailgunning for the group and finally got...
The rations are US Coast Guard rated survival rations by different manufacturers (Datrex, Mayday, etc.). There are some good comparison videos online.
Sounds good. I like the Lifestraws and will probably pick up the Lifesaver can eventually. I also have a Get Home Bag I keep in the rig that I...
You Tacomas get such wonderful toys... :)
That works. I pretty much did the same with the Auxbeam version. I think the only difference is I'm running my compressor through my aux battery, and my comms through the main battery (in case the aux batt was pulled). I hardlined the compressor in the...
Naw, I'm in New Hampshire. Other end of the country. :)
Like the setup. Nice and clean. If you're doing everything in cab, I think you could plan either way. I'd definitely make sure to see if the Redarc can be put in the engine bay. If it can't I'd explore an in-cab modular option. Are you...
