I guess you can always hope for those big discounts they always seem to be giving people to buy a truck. But then again they could always just charge less in general.
I'm not sure the exact website I saw this, but it tried to explain Overlanding as "Motorized Backpacking." Using that as a example, 4-Wheeling/Offroading would be Hiking, Rock crawling would be rock climbing.
It would be like explaining the cliché "Backpacking through Europe" in the same way as...
He uses the ball bungees to attach it to the rear hatch struts.

I am planning to do this as well.
I've forgotten the hammer as well. :expressionless: Thankfully I had my Gerber LMF ii in my fire kit that has a flat point in the pommel to hammer stakes in.
I've also forgotten a pillow. I know it doesn't seem like much but I can tell you trying to use a few t-shirts in a bag is not as...
I've been leaning towards a trailer mounted RTT as well. I like combining the aspects of the extra storage/utility and having more of a Base Camp design where I can set it up and use my rig if needed rather than having to break it down again.
Of course that becomes a more expensive option than...
I would think easier organization. Having a two-tier system would allow to stack items without having to remove extra equipment. Could also use the cross bars to mount bikes and not lose the bed level storage.
I would think it's the same reasoning on why some people put drawers and shelves in...
I've read many articles/threads along the way and this is my philosophy for my own needs:
1. Keep it simple mechanically. The farther you go, the tougher it will be to replace exotic parts.
2. Function necessitates "Needs." Weight determines price. To parrot what toxicity_27 said, modify what...
I've carried a 4Sevens Pen light Every Day clipped in a cargo pocket on me for six plus years. I like that it uses two AA as I've tried to keep commonality of batteries to keep it keep it simple. I would say no matter what you use or carry on you, at the very lest make sure they use the same...
For the emergency kits, you could try to mount MOLLE panels in the rear windows and use Velcro rip-away pouches for it. This is my setup for my Xterra:
I use a rip away for my Trauma Kit (the strapped lower right) and a Survival Kit mounted lower left.
Or perhaps mount some panels on doors, or...
Thanks everyone! It was a slow start but once I did the suspension work it just started to accelerate. It seems the more I add the more new things I want to do to it, and the more I have to prioritize.
Hello everyone!
I'm definitely a Novice to overlanding but currently have been building up my 2014 Xterra to get out there. Looking forward to all of the info and ideas (and adventures) this group can provide.
My rig so far:
With many more mods and improvements to go!
Thanks in advance!
