Yep, Transmission has cooked itself. I guess 400,000 was just too many miles on the poor thing. Got a hookup at AAMCO. I could put one in myself but time, time is the enemy.
So programming a Baofeng with a Mac presented its own challenges. So far I have NOAA and some repeaters programmed in with Chirp. First impressions with ham...No chatter, no one talking. I need to find a simplex or repeater that has a LOT of traffic.

A sat phone is great....if you can hear what’s being said. I’ve used 2 different sat phones at work (fed agency) and at best it sounds like a cup and string phone talking to someone at the bottom of the ocean.
That’s the plan. Already have an NMO mount and adapter for the HT in vehicle. Thanks for the handheld antenna suggestion, what would be a descent vehicle antenna, there are a gazillion choices.

Well if you are able to find montana mountain trail maps that should help a lot. There are camp spot on the top in the pines and there are trail heads. This area is very remote so pack in pack out. No bathrooms. no water.
