This two-person tent is the smaller version of the Alpha hard shell tent and fits on smaller cars and trucks with a short bed (we were using it on our Jeep Gladiator with a 5ft bed).
It opens to the passenger side to a queen size bed.
Black hard shell
Green canvas with orange accents...
My bed rack has three hoops so it made sense to add two more mounting points. To keep people honest I bought some security brackets that prevent cutting through the bolt itself combined with a nut where you need a special adapter to loosen it.
I have seen a couple of videos where people put carpet tiles on the floor. Has anyone of you experience with this, and does it work?
I like the idea of having something permanently attached to the floor vs more velcro stuff or mattresses shifting around...
Depends on what type of RTT you use. I have a hard shell and it takes about a minute to deploy it. You also don't have to hassle with a dirty cover and/or a dirty zipper that doesn't play ball when storing away the tent.
But on the other side, most hard shells are more expensive than soft...
That looks good. I am also thinking of doing this to my Gladiator.
I took out the rear bench (to add a platform), and the noise level went up - no surprise here. There is a lot of hollow space there and in the bed that reinforces the tire sound from my MTs ... We just came back from a CO trip...
Wow, I would not have expected that for that price. It seems another example of good marketing (and the use of "influencers") but a product that isn't up to regular use. Wasn't there a burner in the package that goes with the product?
Back when I had my JKU I had the Warrior Products Renegade rack which I liked a lot. It is slanted just like the aftermarket soft top that I used.
I liked the fact that it has a real basket and was a no drill installation. But it only covers the space over the seats, and has therefore less space...
Parked besides another member (the silver Gladiator) a few weeks ago at our local Döner shop in Leesburg, VA. He had the badge on the passenger side and was there with a friend.
I don't know about the Wrangler who arrived later, but at least he applied good Jeep parking etiquette :-)
I understand - I had an F150 before the Gladiator, and wasn't happy with it. It had engine issues, but that thing was also way too wide for the small rural roads here in Northern VA and finding a parking space in DC when going into town was a challenge. It also had similar tow and payload specs...
Well, it is more a philosophical question. I bought the “max tow” version of the truck, which has the “best in class payload”, but I’d rather bring gear that I use than carry around dead wood that doesn’t serve a function :-)
But overall you are correct, the payload of a Gladiator is much...
Very nice - thanks for the write-up/video. Something to think about putting into the bed of my Jeep ... as we all know Jeeps are payload challenged ...
I hear you. I bought mine as a Black Friday deal (incl. an awning room and a separate awning), and it was delivered in January. So I guess it is worth buying in the off-season.
