High lift jack or exhaust jack?

High lifts are dangerous, not great at winching and only work well at being a jack in certain situations. Does it look cool? Maybe to some, I see them on the outside of trucks and just wonder if they have ever been used and if they ever do need to be used how rusty will it be by then...

Coilovers: how often do you have to rebuild?

King requires very frequent servicing. They are top notch but if you are looking for low maintenance look elsewhere.

    2018 F-150 Build

Nice build man! Builtright and RCI is solid kit. I have both on my 2015. I strongly recommend SPOD for electrical accessories and if you haven’t done your lift the Fox 2.0 system is great and doesn’t void your warranty(ford sells the kit even).

Medical Equipment Facts and Myths (hemostatics, tourniquets, etc.)

Good start on a great conversation. I see so many people pack a stuffed med bag with hemostatics, air ways, chest seals, and decompression needles with zero training outside of a YouTube video and a bag dump thread from AR15.com. Consistant training is key. Skills are perishable.

    Ground Truth on Expiration Dates

Another point to consider is if you are to give someone else expired drugs and things don’t go as planned you can be at risk. Best to replace when expired, not all state protect good Samaritan’s and if you have training you are expected to give care within the range of your training.

OB Approved Basic Map and Nav

I agree that MGRS is a fantastic system however UTM or USNG are the standard among LEO/SAR. If you haven’t checked out USNG it’s the closest to MGRS. I’m a land nav nerd and I’m excited to work with the new datum that’s soon to come. Check out this: New Datums - National Geodetic Survey

OB Approved How to make a great fire starter

A lot of great posts in here. Thanks all for contributing. As usual, there are many right ways. As a standard for SAR we carry three different ways to start a fire. 2 is 1 and 1 is none mindset. Fire is pretty important. Keep posting.

Overland and Emergency SHTF Comms? What to use?

When things go south HAM operators will rule the world, they will be the only ones with comms. This has been proven time and time again in natural disaster. Amateur radio is a must in anyone’s readiness plan. Part of your range isn’t just the frequency but also the radios on both ends.

    Supreme gas...

If those are Dyno numbers that engine has some mods on it.

And where that hp showed up in the rpm range in conjunction with the torque. And were you tuning the ecm or was it a completely stock engine?

    Supreme gas...

No argument brother! You are dead on with the turbos. The car is designed with performance in mind and will detune when it reads knock. These are outliers for sure. My twin turbo eco boost does the same thing.

    What Air Filter?

K&N makes an awesome product for specific applications however for most autos they are a bad choice. This is a great example of the power of marketing and greed over engineering facts and corporate morality. The auto industry is a dirty world when you pull the curtain back. Thanks for...

    Supreme gas...

You are correct. Premium requires more energy to combust so a car adjusts itself to perform in its baseline parameters. You will not get better fuel economy or a notable boost in power. As for the pinging, cars since around 1996 come equipped with a knock sensor to adjust the engine if it...

    What Air Filter?

Another vote for OEM filters. Don’t buy into the hype and wizardry of the aftermarket. Unless you are creating massive power over stock or doing desert racing stock is more than acceptable.

    Supreme gas...

Modern vehicle’s computers will adjust the air/fuel ratio, spark, timing, etc. to the exact specs for that engine. If it’s a stock engine and the manufacturer says to use 87, then use 87. If you put 93 octane in it you might see a boost for a tank as the vehicle adjusts for the new fuel but...

    2015 Overland/SAR F150

They are super thick and well made. If you hit something hard enough to dent these you probably really screwed up.

    Fire starting

As stated above, dryer lint isn’t a viable option anymore due to synthetics. Here is a “how to” for my favorite fire starter. This is much easier to work with compared to cotton balls and petroleum jelly. https://www.overlandbound.com/forums/threads/how-to-make-a-great-fire-starter.14616/

    2015 Overland/SAR F150

I’d really like some real rock sliders as well as a winch bumper but that’s it. I’m really happy with everything else. Thank you!

    2015 Overland/SAR F150

I chose the Alucab for a lot of reasons but a huge one is the large, squared off coverage on the rear where I’ll be cooking or making cocktails. The fabric is superior to many other awnings and I believe the hinge and beams are as well.

    2015 Overland/SAR F150

That’s good to know, I’ll have to look them up. I just don’t want to lose my adaptive cruise and auto parking if possible.
