    Lighting up Camp

Made myself a set of electric goggles. They started off as a gag because you could program the lights to do anything you want. (programmable RGB LEDs and a built in micro processor. Very geeky these) Then a buddy of mine told me he'd like a set if they could do white light. Well, yeah they can...

How to make a killer fire kit

Well another approach.. Enough fire starter in this can to light up the entire campground, and then some! :) -jim lee

    July - 2018 WABDR - 07/15/2018

So, of all you that are going, does anyone have a chainsaw they plan on bringing along? How about a winch on their vehicle? Radios, we thinking some sort of radio communication would be a good idea? Just wondering what everyone is thinking along these lines. View Rally Point Details -jim lee

    Dispersed camping NW - WA?

Checked out Mountain loop highway yesterday. Found this list O' rules about camping in the National Forest. I guess Dispersed Camping is allowed in more places than I thought. Pretty slick! Now all I have to do is get the truck working again.. -jim lee

Thanks for the replies so far. Shovel a bucket? Who holds the rules to all this? National Forrest? State parks? BLM? Trump? -jim lee

    Dispersed camping NW - WA?

Does anyone know if there's any "Dispersed camping" up here in the NW part of Washington? And if so where? And how do you find it? Is there a map somewhere? Many thanks in advance! -jim lee

Not a build as much as a resurrection?

Welding skills.. Nothing to brag about. Steve and I can both do gas welding. But, we have friends here with skills! Steve loves his adult beverages. Very little adult beverage and I'm just sleeping under the truck. And I'm thinking about, start with the cab floor and work back. The cab floor...

Not a build as much as a resurrection?

A bit of an update.. Getting closer to the planned July WABDR, I’ve been trying to focus the project down to a few manageable but necessary items. There is a roughness in the engine that I would like to cure, once and for all. Something in the new driveline sounds like its failing. And, the...

Not a build as much as a resurrection?

I'd been thinking about modifying the springs, but I don't dare try that project this close to the WABDR (A month). Why? Because the odds are I'll break some irreplaceable part and spend weeks trying to get another or something like that. I'm finally learning that when working on this machine...

    BLM Trail Marker Decoder Ring?

Like this? https://www.blm.gov/sites/blm.gov/files/maps-avenza-california-eastern_imperial_county_route.pdf I found this by putting BLM Route 996 into google. If you search for 996 on that .pdf file you will see the road you spoke of. At least I think so.. -jim lee

Err plan? Not sure how to answer that. Drive North; Camp; Repeat 'till Canada? Never gave much thought to planning. Does anyone have some planning ideas they'd like to get out in the open? Maybe there are things we should discuss? -jim lee

Not a build as much as a resurrection?

I'm thinking I'll try the air-down trick. I do worry about airing it back up and having a lock ring blow off and kill me though. There is president for airing down these old things. The WWII Ducks had an auto air-down system. I'm thinking I'll use that as a guide. I talked to the online...

Not a build as much as a resurrection?

Thanks guys! I realize I never actually wrote what I was trying to accomplish with this poor old machine. I'm trying to get it into good enough shape to take it on the Washington Backcountry Discover Route this summer. https://www.overlandbound.com/event/july-2018-wabdr/ I don't know if I'll...

Not a build as much as a resurrection?

Minor adjustments? Lets try some PR work... We have two Army trucks. An M37 painted up like an Army truck and this Carryall painted, greenish. Now, people wave and smile at the M37. I’ve had mothers, that I’ve never met before, ask me to take their kids for rides in it. And oddly, its a...

Not a build as much as a resurrection?

You are correct in what you say. I've done it both ways, blog 100% on a forum and like I do now. The issue with the forum one is you loose control of your work, then typically something changes and you loose it altogether. The forum ones can be a lot of fun because of all the interaction. They...

Not a build as much as a resurrection?

Replying to myself again? Anyway, I updated the blog. Its more testing than wrenching this time. As I get the different bits fixed we've been running the poor machine all over seeing what'll break next.. Here's a teaser image. You can see the hidden terror in Dan's eyes.. See link below...
