US East Flagpole Knob Dayton, VA 3/22-24

We had a lot of fun, there were a few other groups around Meadow Knob and Flagpole Knob. Friday night we stayed past Skidmore Lake, on the left side there were two campsites and we found a trail on the right. It was a great spot that held 10 of us, a friend and I got there first so we took this...

US East Flagpole Knob Dayton, VA 3/22-24

I’m meeting up with a group for the weekend. I’ve heard the area just got some snow yesterday, so we’ll see how many of the roughly 30 vehicles end up showing up.

Flagpole Knob Trail Ride - 02/17/2019

@hollonm how many people went on this trip? Union Springs FR 225, is it preferred to drive up the hill or down from FR 85 / Dunkle Hollow? Do you have GPX files of your routes or preferred roads? Thanks

Gas Lantern or Battery powered Lantern?

We used a Coleman gas lantern last weekend camping. That thing rocked! However, with needing the propane tanks for the Buddy Heaters, I have a Lucie light (solar) and Luminoodle w/rechargeable pack.

    Gazelle Tent

I love my Gazelle T-4 tent, used it this past weekend. It was 19 degrees overnight Friday and 15 overnight Saturday in Green Ridge State Forest. I noticed I lose a lot of heat from my Buddy Heater thru the screen top, with the rain fly on. Does anyone have any suggestions to better insulate...

Phone mount for larger phone - need recommendation

I’ve got the iPhone XR with a Spigen case. My Scosche magnetic mount worked great with my iPhone SE with a Spigen case but this larger iPhone doesn’t hold in place. What’s your suggestion? Got pics? I’ve been looking into the Ram Mounts on Amazon and wondered if the suction cup would be fine...

Securing awning to the vehicle - security lock?

I'm installing my 6.5' awning to the stock roof rack with 'L' brackets that came with it. My question is, what did you use to secure the awning to the vehicle to keep anyone from trying to steal it? Yes, we have issues in our neighborhood with car break-ins and I'm concerned that a few...

    Heating for sleeping

Thanks for the info. We ended up cutting into 5’ or so sheets to lay over the sleeping bags with a wool blanket over that. My 10 yr old son used a 35 degree bag and said he was warm enough - Scouts camping this past weekend. Though I also had him wear thermals and change his socks before bed...

    Heating for sleeping

I just picked up the yellow Mr Heater from Lowes. Should come in real handy for a trip this weekend. I also picked up a roll of Reflectix. Not sure if it’s better to run the reflectix around the walls of the tent or setup for each camper in our tent

    Roof top tent rally

I’m bringing my son and his buddy, we’ll be camping in our Gazelle T4. This should be a great event!

    Gazelle Tents

Well, I bought the T4, and set it up today. For the cost difference, I couldn’t resist. It’s great, and I can’t wait to use it next weekend.

What do you use to store all your gear?

How are you all securing them to your roof racks? Got pics with close ups?

    Recommend me a Bathroom Tent

I bought the Wolfwise Privacy tent on Amazon, folds down into a disc shape as others have mentioned. It was inexpensive.

    Gazelle Tents

I need to replace a basic Coleman tent, and I think for the price I may go with the T3. It’s usually just me and my son camping so the T4 would be a bit extreme. Plus I like the smaller footprint of the T3 fitting it inside my 4Runner.

    DIY Solar Shower

@Ditcherman I ended up using the rounded cap. Drilled the holes and test fitted the hose spigot and metal valve stem (found 4 pack on Amazon), and painted. Done! With pressure it leaked, but I sealed up the caps and connectors with the Silicon. Should be good.

    DIY Solar Shower

Got some foam blocks from a neighbor, and cut them to fit my stock roof rack. Where do I find a 4” flat end cap for the valve and hose spigot? Anyone?

    DIY Solar Shower

I bought the 4" PVC Schedule 40 pipe and T-Connector with threaded cap. However, I need a flat end cap for the back so I can add the Valve and Hose Spigot. I also need to order the Metal Valve Stem, to replace the rubber seal one I got from a tire store - not sure the one I have will correctly...
