Built not bought. Overland trailer home built.

Get a piece of 1/4” or thicker aluminum and clamp it flat to the back side, and then weld over it with spots. The steel won’t stick to the aluminum, so you’ll get a fairly flat back side, then just flap disc the front back to the correct thickness. Easy Peasy - you’ll be back to what you...

Part three of the deck build - adding a 1/2 sized headache rack to the front! Somehow, technically this is a 4th part as I had two part ones. I need a simpler numbering system LOL. Mitsubishi Fuso FG Canter - such a 1/2 headache!

    Fuso FG slow build

With the code issue solved, it was time to start building back up the sub-frame for this truck! Lots of dirty steel welding, and some big pieces of T-slot aluminum coming this way! Mitsubishi Fuso FG flatbed / tray back build part 1

    Fuso FG slow build

While slowly grinding along with all the build parts, I needed to do some maintenance items as well - and found that there was not a lot of resources online for people to follow. I decided that as part of this build I would try to capture as much of the maintenance and repairs I was doing...

Built not bought. Overland trailer home built.

I feel your pain. I’m ”Built not Bought”-ing a sub-frame, flat deck and full habitat box for our Fuso FG - I’m over two years into it and it still looks like nothing. You’ve come a long way in a short time! Took me over a year just to get the truck ready fir the sub-frame, and it’s been a...

    Fuso FG slow build

Back to some sub frame mounting work! This is what allows the sub-frame to remain flat, and not transfer any stress to the habitat box - while the chassis is left free to flex, as designed. Fuso FG Chassis to Sub-Frame spring mounts - DIY build!

    Fuso FG slow build

It seemed that this wasn’t going to be a simple issue to resolve, but I wasn’t going to let it get the better of me. With enough time and information, I knew it was solvable. Mitsubishi Fuso FG 4P10 crankcase pressure diagnostic 2

Unfortunately I’d been having an engine light come on, and knowing how difficult it is to get these trucks out of limp mode, I didn’t want to risk leaving it for any longer than I absolutely had to. Time to dive into the codes and fixing it! Mitsubishi Fuso FG 4P10 crankcase pressure diagnostic 1

    Fuso FG slow build

In order to determine how to build the sub frame and it’s mounts, I wanted to do a chassis twist test. For those not familiar with these trucks, they are designed to flex (yes you read that properly) - so having a sub-frame that allows the chassis to flex, while not transferring the twist to...

With the batteries replaced it was once again easy to move the truck, and that meant I could start working on building the new sub frame - but first I had to cut off the welded on frame! Mitsubishi Fuso FG Camper Sub-frame build - Part 1

    Fuso FG slow build

Thanks! It sure isn’t a quick process! The time had come to replace the batteries - I was getting tired of having to boost the truck every time I wanted to to move it. I know a lot of folks go with different types of batteries, increased capacity, AGM, etc - but I decided to stick with old...

    Fuso FG slow build

With the cab floor painted, there was one thing left to do before putting the carpet back down, and that was adding some noise damping material. I chose Noico from Amazon, seemed to be a reasonable price for what you got, and had decent reviews. Petty straightforward to install as well...

PAINT! Finally the metalwork is done to a point where I can cover it all up and move on! I’ve used Chassis Saver paint before on a Landcruiser Frame and loved how it went on. Time for some more! Final Floor Repairs Done! Mitsubishi Fuso FG Canter

With the metalwork wrapping up, I needed to re-make the square holes that hold the trim clips in place. Unfortunately I don’t own any square drill bits, so I had to come up with a square hole solution! Mitsubishi Fuso fitting square pegs into round holes

    Fuso FG slow build

Anyone who was spent any time in this type of truck knows that the factory seats are horrible for anything more than a short trip to the store. After driving butt numb in our first box truck all the way to and from a Florida, upgraded seats were high on the priority list for this truck! I...

While tackling the rust repairs, I noticed that the vacuum tank was pretty corroded, and figured this probably had something to do with the issues I’ve had shifting into 4x4. Time to replace the tank, and protect it from future corrosion. Check it out if you are installing anything like this...
