I have to say, for my first time out with OB it couldn't have been any better. Great weather, great scenery, and absolutely the greatest people! Thanks Dan for putting it all together. Thank you everyone for making this newbie feel at home. A special thank you to Michael and Corrie for starting...
First field repair of trip, all the good chairs are in the trailer at home. Good thing the wife didn't come. She is after me to lose weight. Ha ha

There is a Vons that seems to have everything. It's on Main Street as well, just go left off of I15 on east Main Street exit. It's about 1/2 mile on the left. I work in the area a couple times a month so I'm pretty familiar with Barstow.

I use them all the time, but I am out a lot where gas stations are few and far between. Both work and play. I also don't like paying the price of gas that most stations charge in remote areas (if you can find one).

FYI, if anyone is planning to wait and get supplies at the Walmart in Barstow, they are very limited on whats in stock for camping (and other things). You are better off going to a different one. Maybe they stock for weekends, but the shelves were mighty bare early this morning.

I am working in Yermo Ca only a few miles from the west end of the Mojave Road. Right now the weather is great and I can't wait to hit the trail with everyone!

Oh, I just remembered. If anyone is planning to go to Fort Piute, make sure to bring mosquito repellent. Last time I was there I was bitten 12 times on my arms alone. It was around the same time of year.

Double check your wench. I walked by my Jeep and on a whim just reached down and tried and flip the lever to free spool, and it wouldn't budge. Pulled the wench off and took it apart. What a mess, caked grease, rust, and corrosion. The only semi deep water crossing I remember going through is...
You can bypass Soda Lake by taking I15 and exiting at Basin Road. There is a private RR crossing so you can explore both sides of the tracks (Desert Megaphone etc...). This way you still go through Afton Canyon.
